1 Then Bildad {Bildad: Job's friend} the Shuhite {hashuchi: Shuah's clan} answered and said:
2 How long will you make an end{qinṣe: stopping point} of words? Mark{tavinu: take heed}, and afterward we will speak.
3 Why are we counted{nekhshavnu: passive evaluation} as beasts{behemah: livestock imagery}, and regarded as stupid in your eyes?
4 You who tear your life {nefesh: whole self} in your anger, is it for your sake {sake: self-interest} that the earth will be forsaken, and that the rock will move from its place?
5 Also the light {or: prosperity glow} of the wicked will be extinguished, and the spark {sheviv: brief flare} of his fire will not shine.
6 The light turns dark in his tent {ohel: household shelter}, and his lamp {ner: small oil lamp} over him will be extinguished.
7 The steps{tsaadei: forward progress} of his strength will be straitened, and his own counsel{atzato: self-devised scheme} will cast him down.
8 For he is thrust{shullakh: forcibly driven} into a net by his feet, and upon a mesh{sevakhah: woven snare} he walks about.
9 A trap will seize him by the heel {aqev: back of foot}; snares will hold him fast {yakhazek: clamp down}.
10 His cord {khavlo: snare-rope} is hidden in the earth, and his trap lies upon the path {nativ: travel route}.
11 All around, terrors {balahot: sudden alarms} terrify him, and they drive him on {vehepitṣu-hu: rout in fear} at his heels.
12 His strength {ono: vital vigor} will be hunger-stricken, and disaster is prepared at his side {tsal'o: close beside}.
13 It will consume the parts{baddei: bodily pieces} of his skin; the firstborn{bekhor mavet: Death’s Worst Agent} of death will consume his limbs.
14 He is torn away from his tent and from his security {mivtach: trusted refuge}, and he is marched to the king of terrors {ballahot: panic dread}.
15 It will dwell in his tent{tishkon: settles there}, because it is not his{mibli-lo: not his}; brimstone will be scattered upon his dwelling place.
16 From beneath{mitachat: from under}, his roots dry up, and from above, his branch is cut off{yimmal: severed}.
17 His memory has perished from the earth {aretz: inhabited land}, and he has no name in the street {chuts: public square}.
18 They will drive him from the light into darkness{choshekh: total obscurity}, and from the world{tevel: human realm} they will banish him.
19 There is no offspring {nin: continuing line} for him, and no descendant among his people, and there is no survivor in his dwellings {megurav: living places}.
20 At his day {yomo: fateful time}, the later ones are appalled, and the former ones are seized with horror {saar: shuddering dread}.
21 Surely, these are the dwellings {mishkenot: settled habitations} of the wicked, and this is the place of the one who does not know God {El, Mighty Judge}.
