It was carrying out what Jesus had already said

It was settling a dispute over the accusation

It was proving the crowd's reaction right

It was opening a new lesson about suffering

Jesus had spoken beforehand about his death

The verse tells the exact place of his death

Keep trusting God's purpose while facing the pain honestly

Decide the situation is meaningless unless you can explain it now

Treat the pain as proof that God has stopped caring

Assume the only faithful response is to avoid all hard things

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, you spoke of the death you would die, and I need your saving death for me. I admit that I have sinned and cannot make myself right with God. I turn from my sin and trust that you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord and ask you to lead my life from this day forward. Amen.

Receive Jesus Who Went to the Cross

Lord, revive your Church with deeper trust in your wisdom. Where we have treated suffering as meaningless, teach us to believe that your word reaches its goal. Make us steady, honest, and courageous as we speak of Jesus and his saving death to a world that needs hope, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Your Church to Trust Your Purpose

Father, when I face pain I cannot yet explain, help me believe you are still at work. Give me courage to endure honestly, to grieve without losing hope, and to trust that even what feels like a dead end is not beyond your purpose, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Peace in Pain We Do Not Yet Understand

Pray by naming one situation that feels confusing or painful, then ask God to show you what faithfulness looks like in it. Finish by asking for courage to take the next right step, even before you understand the whole path.

Pray for Trust in a Hard Place

Give thanks for Jesus' words that did not fail, for a purpose that reached completion, and for a Savior who faced death knowingly for us. Thank God that no suffering in his hands is wasted.

Pray for someone facing grief, illness, or a looming loss: that they would sense God's nearness, trust Jesus' wise purposes, and receive people who will stay with them in the hard place.
