1 These are the journeys {massei: numbered stages} of the sons of Israel who went out from the land of Egypt according to their divisions {letzivotam: organized divisions}, under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
2 And Moses wrote their departures and journeys {mas’ehem: stations traveled} at the command of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Guide}. And these were their journeys, according to their departures.
3 And they set out from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of that month; on the day after Passover{pesach: deliverance festival}, the sons of Israel went out with a raised hand{yad ramah: public display} before the eyes of all Egypt.
4 And Egypt was burying all their firstborn whom the LORD {YHWH, Righteous Judge} had struck among them, and on their gods the LORD performed judgments {shefatim: acts of justice}.
5 And the sons of Israel {benei-yisrael: covenant community} set out from Rameses and camped at Sukkoth {sukkot: temporary shelters}.
6 And they set out from Sukkoth and camped at Etham, which is at the edge {bikse: border or extremity} of the wilderness {midbar: arid land}.
7 And they journeyed from Etham, and turned back to Pi-hahiroth {hachirot: desert pass entrance}, which is before Baal Zephon {baal tsefon: northern landmark}, and they encamped before Migdol.
8 And they journeyed from before HaChiroth and crossed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness {midbar: arid region}, and they traveled for three days along the way in the wilderness of Etham, and they camped at Marah {marah: place of bitterness}.
9 And they set out from Marah and came to Elim, where in Elim twelve springs {einot: flowing sources} provided water and seventy date palms {temarim: fruit-bearing trees}, and they camped there.
10 And they set out {nasa: departure stage} from Elim and camped by the Sea of Reeds {yam-suf: Reeds Sea}.
11 And they set out from the Sea of Suph {yam suf: Red Sea} and camped in the Wilderness of Sin {midbar sin: desert region}.
12 And they set out {vayis’u: journey began} from the wilderness {midbar: arid region} of Sin and camped at Dofqah.
13 And they journeyed from Dophqah {Dophqah: departure station} and encamped in Alush {Alush: wilderness stop}.
14 And they journeyed from Alush and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water {mayim: essential for life} there for the people {am: covenant community} to drink.
15 And they set out from Rephidim {rephidim: Resting Stations} and camped in the wilderness {midbar: Desolate Region} of Sinai.
16 And they set out from the wilderness of Sinai {sinai: revelation mountain}, and they camped at Kibroth Hattaavah {kivrot ha-taavah: graves of craving}.
17 And they set out from Kibroth Hattaavah {kivrot hattaavah: graves of craving} and they camped at Hazeroth {ḥaṣērôṯ: enclosure settlement}.
18 And they journeyed {yis'u: traveled forward} from Hazeroth and encamped {hanah: set up camp} at Rithmah.
19 And they set out from Rithmah {ritmah: tamarisk bush} and camped at Rimmon {rimmon: pomegranate region} Perez.
20 And they set out {vayissu: journey departure} from Rimmon-Peretz and camped at Livnah {livnah: white hill}.
21 They set out {nasa: initiated journey} from Livnah and camped {chanah: organized cantonment} at Rissah.
22 They set out {vayisu: traveled onward} from Rissah and camped {vayakhanu: established camp} at Kehelathah.
23 And they set out from Kehelathah {miqqehelattah: assembly site} and camped at Mount {har: elevated place} Shepher.
24 And they journeyed {nisa: set out} from Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah {charadah: trembling place}.
25 And they set out{yiss'u: depart} from Haradah and camped at Makheloth{makheloth: assembly camp}.
26 And they set out {vayis'u: orderly departure} from Makhelot and camped {vayachanu: pitched camp} at Tahath.
27 And they set out {yis’u: departure} from Tahath and camped {yachanu: pitched camp} at Terah.
28 And they set out from Terah{terah: named campsite} and camped at Mithkah{bemitkah: encampment station}.
29 And they set out from Mitkah and camped {vayichanu: pitched camp} at Chashmonah {Chashmonah: desert waypoint}.
30 And they set out {vayis'u: journey commenced} from Hashmonah and camped {vayachanu: pitched their tents} at Moseroth.
31 And they set out from Moseroth {moserot: departure point} and camped at Bene {benei: descendant group} Jaakan.
32 And they set out from Bene Jaakan {bnei: tribal clan}, and camped at Hor Haggidgad {hor: cave settlement}.
33 And they set out from Hor Haggidgad {Hor Haggidgad: named stage} and they camped at Yotvathah {beyotvatah: stationing place}.
34 And they set out {nis’u: planned departure} from Jotbathah and camped {yachanu: temporary encampment} at Abronah.
35 And they set out from Avronah {me’avronah: place of passage}, and they camped at Ezion Geber {be’etzion gever: named stopping place}.
36 And they set out from Ezion Geber and camped in the wilderness {midbar: arid steppe region} of Zin; it is Kadesh {qadesh: border sanctuary}.
37 And they set out from Kadesh {miqadesh: wilderness staging area} and camped at Mount Hor, at the border of the land of Edom {Edom: territory southeast of Israel}.
38 And Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the command of the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Commander}, and he died there in the fortieth year after the sons of Israel {bene-yisra’el: covenant community} had come out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month.
39 And Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old {ben-shalosh ve-esrim u-me'at: full age count} at his death on Mount Hor {beHor haHar: prominent mountain}.
40 And the Canaanite {hakenaani: people of Canaan} king of Arad heard of the coming of the sons of Israel while he was dwelling in the Negev {bannegev: southern plateau} in the land of Canaan.
41 And they set out from Mount Hor {har: elevated place}, and they camped at Zalmonah {tsalmonah: place of shadow}.
42 And they set out {nasa: organized departure} from Zalmonah and camped {chanah: structured lodging} at Punon.
43 They departed from Punon {Punon: desert station} and encamped at Oboth {Obot: encampment station}.
44 And they set out from Oboth, and camped at Iye-ha-Abarim{iyye-havarim: ruined crossings} on the border{gvul: territory boundary} of Moab.
45 And they set out from Iyim {iyyim: departure point} and camped at Dibon {dibon: settlement location} Gad.
46 And they set out from Dibon Gad {dibon gad: Transjordan station} and camped {wayyachanu: pitched tents} at Almon-diblathaim.
47 And they set out from Almon Diblathaim and camped in the mountains {beharei: mountain ridge} of the Abarim before Nebo {lifnei: before/in front of}.
48 And they set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped on the plains of Moab by the Jordan {yarden: descending river} facing Jericho {yerecho: fortified town}.
49 And they camped on the Jordan {Yarden: river boundary} from Beth Jeshimoth {beit-yeshimot: desert outpost} to Abel Shittim in the plains of Moab.
50 And the LORD {YHWH, Divine Speaker} spoke to Moses in the plains {be‘arvot: open wilderness} of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying:
