Then He {YHWH, Divine Speaker} said to me, “Son of man, rise to your feet {ragleykha: idiom for readiness}, and I will speak with you.”
As He {YHWH, Sovereign Speaker} spoke to me, the Spirit {ruach: divine breath} entered into me, set me on my feet, and I listened to Him who was speaking to me.
And He {YHWH, Sovereign Sender} said to me, “Son of Man, I am sending you to the sons of Israel, to rebel nations {goyim hammordim: nations in revolt} who have rebelled against Me. They and their fathers have transgressed against Me until this very day.”
And the sons {banim: descendants} who are hard of face and stubborn of heart, I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Sovereign Master}.’
And they, whether they listen or refrain {yechdalu: hold back}, for they are a rebellious house {beit meri: house of rebellion}, will know that a prophet was among them.
And you, son of man {ben-adam: human representative}, do not fear them or their words; though briers {saravim: painful hazards} and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions, do not fear their words or be dismayed by their faces, for they are a house of rebellion.
And you shall speak My {YHWH: Sovereign Speaker} words to them, whether they listen or whether they refrain {yechdalu: withhold response}; for they are a rebellious people.
But you, son of man, listen to what I {YHWH, Divine Speaker} am saying to you; do not be rebellious {meri: stubborn opposition} like the house of rebellion. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.
And I saw, and behold, a hand {yad: symbol of authority} was sent to me, and behold, in it was a scroll {megillah: rolled parchment document}.
He spread it out before me; on its front and back was inscribed lamentations {kinim: dirges}, mourning, and woe {hi: intense calamity}.
