1 The word {dvar: spoken message} of the LORD {YHWH, Revelation Giver} that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
2 The beginning of the word of the LORD {YHWH, Prophetic Speaker} by Hosea, and the LORD said, “Go, take for yourself a wife of whoredoms {zenunim: covenant adultery} and children of whoredoms, for the land is surely committing whoredom by turning away from the LORD {YHWH, Holy Husband}.”
3 So he went and took Gomer {gomer: complete finish}, the daughter of Divlayim, and she conceived and bore him a son {ben: male child}.
4 And the LORD {YHWH, Just Judge} said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in a little while I will call to account {upaqadti: execute judgment} the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.”
5 And it will come to pass on that day that I will break the bow {keshet: symbol of strength} of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel {Yizre'el: God sows}.
6 And she conceived again and bore a daughter, and He {YHWH, Commanding Judge} said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah, for I will not again have compassion on the house {beit: Israel's nation} of Israel, to forgive them at all.”
7 But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God {YHWH Eloheihem, Covenant Deliverer}, and I will not save them by bow {qeshet: archery weapon}, nor by sword, nor by battle, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.
8 And she weaned {vattegmol: ended nursing} Lo-Ruhamah {lo-ruhamah: Not Pitied}, and she conceived and gave birth to a son.
9 And He said, “Call his name Not My People {lo ammi: Covenant Rejection}, for you are not My people, and I {anokhi: Covenant Speaker} will not be for you.”
10 And it shall be that the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea which cannot be measured nor counted, and it shall be in the place where it is said to them, “You are not My people,” it shall be said to them, “Children {benei: descendants by relationship} of the Living God {El Chai, Everlasting Source}.”
11 And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together {yachdav: in unity}, and they will appoint for themselves one head, and they will go up from the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel {yizreel: God’s sowing}.
