Joshua 16TAB

And the lot {goral: allotted portion} went out to the sons of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, to the waters of Jericho on the east, the wilderness going up from Jericho in the hill country to Bethel {Beit-El: sacred site}.

And it went out from Bethel {beit-el: house of God} to Luz, and it passed over to the border of the Archite {arkhi: Archite people}, Ataroth.

And it went down westward to the boundary of the Japhletite {yafleti: named group}, as far as the boundary of Lower Beth-horon, and as far as Gezer; and its goings out {tots'otav: border endpoints} were seaward.

And the sons {benei: tribal descendants} of Joseph—Manasseh and Ephraim—received their inheritance {nachal: allotted territory}.

And the border of the sons of Ephraim, according to their clans {mishpechotam: clan divisions}, was as follows: The border of their inheritance was eastward from Ataroth Addar {atarot Addar: boundary town} to Upper Beth Horon.

And the border went out from there toward the sea, with Mikmethath {mikhmetat: boundary marker} on the north side; then the border turned eastward to Taanath Shiloh, and it passed beyond it on the east to Janoah {yanoah: border city}.

It descended from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, and touched Jericho {yericho: ancient city}, and went out at the Jordan {hayarden: boundary river}.

From Tappuah the boundary runs westward to the wadi {nachal: seasonal stream} Kanah, and its outlets reach the Mediterranean {yamah: western sea}; this is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim according to their families.

And the cities that were set apart for the sons of Ephraim {Ephraim: northern tribe} lay in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh; all the cities and their villages {chatzer: outlying settlements}.

But they did not dispossess {horishu: active removal} the Canaanite who dwelt in Gezer, so the Canaanite has remained among Ephraim until this day and has become a levy of labor {mas: compulsory tribute}.
