1 And the lot {goral: designated portion} for the tribe of the sons of Judah by their families came to the border of Edom and to the wilderness of Zin southward, extending to its uttermost limit {mik-tseh: uttermost limit}.
2 And their southern boundary was from the end of the Salt Sea {yam hamelach: Dead Sea basin}, from the tongue {lashon: land projection} that faces southward.
3 And it went out to the south to the ascent of Akrabbim {akrabim: scorpions’ pass}, passed over to Zin, and went up from the south to Kadesh Barnea; then it passed over to Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka {karka: territorial boundary}.
4 And it passed by Azmon and came out to the wadi {nachal: seasonal river} of Egypt, and the outgoings {totzaot: boundary endpoints} of the boundary were at the sea. This shall be your southern boundary.
5 And the eastern boundary was the Salt Sea {yam ha-melach: Dead Sea} up to the edge of the Jordan, and the northern border lay from the bay {lishon: projecting inlet} of the sea to the point where the Jordan ends.
6 And the boundary ascended to Beth-Hoglah and traversed from the north to Beth-ha-Arabah; then the boundary ascended to the stone {even: boundary marker} of Bohan, the son of Reuben {ben-reuven: tribal ancestor}.
7 And the boundary {g’vul: territorial limit} went up from the Valley of Achor toward Debir, then turned north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim on the south side of the wadi; and the boundary passed to the waters of En Shemesh, and its outgoings {tots’otav: boundary endpoints} were at En Rogel.
8 And the boundary rose through the Valley of Ben-Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusite {hayevusi: Jebusite resident}, at the southern edge marking Jerusalem, and then ascended to the top of the hill before the Valley of Hinnom, westward, ending at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim {emek-refaim: giants’ valley}.
9 And the boundary {gevul: legal demarcation} turned from the top of the hill to the spring of the waters of Nephthoah, went out to the cities of Mount Ephron, and turned again to Baalah, which is called Kiriath-Jearim {qiryat-yearim: forest city}.
10 And the border {gevul: boundary marker} turned from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and passed over to the slope {ketef: ridge line} of Mount Jearim, which is Kesalon, and went down to Beth Shemesh and crossed over to Timnah.
11 And the border went out to the slope of Ekron {eqron: ancient Philistine city} northward, then turned to Shikkeron, passed over Mount Baalah, and went out to Jabneel; and the outgoings {totzeot: designated endpoints} of the border were at the sea.
12 The western boundary was the Great Sea {yam: Mediterranean coastline}, and this was the boundary of the sons of Judah {b’nei-yehudah: tribe of Judah} all around according to their clans.
13 And to Caleb son of Jephunneh was given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command{el-pi: mouth, authoritative directive} of the LORD{YHWH, Covenant Fulfiller} to Joshua, Kiriath-Arba, father of the Anak; it is Hebron.
14 And from there Caleb drove out {yarash: seize by force} the three sons of Anak—Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai—descendants {yelidei: native-born line} of Anak.
15 And he went up from there to the inhabitants {yoshvei: local dwellers} of Debir, and the name of Debir was formerly Kiryat Sefer {qiryat sefer: City of the Scroll}.
16 And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes {yakeh: defeats in combat} Kiriath-Sepher and captures it, then I will give him Achsah my daughter {biti: hereditary heiress} as a wife.”
17 And Othniel {otniel: Deliverer} son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, captured it; so he gave him Aksah his daughter as wife {ishah: covenant partner}.
18 And it happened that when she came, she prompted {tasitehu: deliberate urging} him to ask her father for a field. She dismounted {titsnakh: descended} from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”
19 She said, “Give me a blessing {berakhah: covenant favor}, since you have given me land in the Negev {han-negeb: southern arid region}, give me springs of water also.” And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
20 This is the inheritance {nachalah: allotted portion} of the tribe of the sons of Judah, according to their clans {mishpachot: familial divisions}.
21 And these were the cities at the extremity of the territory of the tribe of the sons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the Negev {negbah: arid region}: Kabtze'el {kabtze'el: southern border town}, Eder, and Jagur.
22 And Kinah {Kinah: boundary village}, and Dimonah {Dimonah: fortified town}, and Adadah.
23 Kedesh {Qedesh: town-name}, Hazor {Chatzor: Canaanite Stronghold}, and Ithnan.
24 Ziph, Telem {telem: ridge settlement}, and Bealoth {bealot: settlements}.
25 Hazor-Hadattah and Kerioth-Hezron {qeriyyot chetzron: paired town}; that is Hazor {chatser: fortified settlement}.
26 Amam {amam: southern border town}, Shema, and Moladah {moladah: ancestral birthplace}.
27 And Hazar {hazar: settlement enclosure} Gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth {beth: house settlement} Pelet.
28 Hazar Shual {shu'al: fox}, Beersheba {sheva: seven}, and Biziothiah.
29 Baalah {ba‘alah: southern border town}, Iyim {‘iyyim: small ruin settlement}, and Azem.
30 And {vav: coordinating conjunction} Eltolad and Kesil and Hormah {ḥor-māh: devoted site}.
31 Ziklag {tsiklag: frontier stronghold}, Madmannah {madmannah: agricultural settlement}, and Sansannah.
32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon— all the towns {arim: City Settlements} numbered twenty-nine, and their villages {chatzer: Outlying Settlements}.
33 In the lowland {bashfelah: Shephelah region}, Eshtaol {eshtaol: border town of Judah}, Zorah and Ashnah.
34 Zanoah, En Gannim {en gannim: spring gardens}, Tappuah, and Enam {enam: water-source town}.
35 Jarmuth {yarmut: hilltown}, and Adullam, Socoh {sokho: southern stronghold}, and Azekah.
36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, and Gederothaim—fourteen towns {arim: fortified towns} and their villages {chatsreyhen: outlying hamlets}.
37 Zenan, Hadashah {hadashah: new settlement}, and Migdal-Gad {migdal: fortified tower}.
38 Dil’an and the Mizpeh {mitspeh: watchtower site} and Joktheel {yokteel: God is able}.
39 Lachish {Lakhish: fortified city}, Bozkath, and Eglon {Eglon: southern town}.
40 And {ve: repeated connector} Kabbon {kabbon: boundary city}, Lahmas, and Kitlish.
41 And Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities {arim: walled towns} with their villages {chatzreihen: nearby hamlets}.
42 Libnah {livnah: city in the Shephelah} and {vav: coordinate conjunction} Ether and Ashan.

44 Keilah, Akzib, and Mareshah—nine towns {arim: city communities} and their villages {chatzreyhen: surrounding settlements}.
45 Ekron {eqron: Philistine city} and its daughter towns and its villages {chatser: surrounding enclosures}.
46 From Ekron and westward {yamah: western region}, all that is along the side of Ashdod and their villages {chatzreihen: rural settlements}.
47 Ashdod with its surrounding towns {benot: dependent settlements} and villages {hatsereha: farming hamlets}; Gaza with its surrounding towns and villages—up to the brook of Egypt, and the Great Sea and its boundary.
48 And in the hill country {har: elevated region}, Shamir, Jattir, and Sokoh {sokho: thorny enclosure}.
49 And Dannah, and Kiriath-Sannah {qiryat: city of}, which is Debir {devir: same place}.
50 Anab and {vav: sequential connector} Eshtemoh and Anim {ʿanim: settlement name}.
