For the director {lamnatseach: temple music leader} of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God {Elohim, Rejected Ruler}.” They have acted corruptly; they have done abominable deeds. There is none who does good.
The LORD {YHWH, All-Seeing Judge} looked down from heaven upon the children of man to see whether there is anyone who has understanding {maskil: discerning insight} and seeks God {Elohim, Merciful Sovereign}.
All {hakol: every person} have turned aside; together {yachdav: in full unity} they have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one.
Have all the workers of iniquity {aven: moral corruption} no knowledge? They eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Judge}.
There they were seized with fear, for God {Elohim, Dread Of Evildoers} is in the generation of the righteous {tsaddik: morally just}.
You all shame the counsel of the poor, for the LORD {YHWH, Shelter Provider} is his refuge {machseh: protective shelter}.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD {YHWH, Mighty Rescuer} restores the fortunes of His people {ammo: national assembly}, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.
