Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as the fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ {Christos, Suffering Messiah}, and also a sharer in the glory {doxa: divine honor} that is about to be revealed.
Shepherd the flock {poimnion: local congregation} of God {Theos, Flock's True Master} that is among you, overseeing, not by compulsion but willingly, according to God; nor for shameful gain, but eagerly.
Nor as dominating over those allotted to you {kleron: entrusted people}, but becoming examples to the flock {poimniou: believing community}.
And when the Chief Shepherd {archipoimenos: Supreme Overseer} is made known, you will receive the unfading crown {stephanos: victor’s wreath} of glory.
Likewise, you younger ones, place yourselves under the elders. And all of you, wrap yourselves in humility toward one another, because God {Theos, Authority Giver} opposes the proud {huperēphanos: self-exalting} but gives grace to the humble.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God {Theos, Sovereign Uplifter}, so that He may exalt you at the proper time {kairo: appointed season}.
Having cast all your care {merimna: inward anxiety} upon Him {Theos, Attentive Caregiver}, because He cares for you.
Be sober-minded {nepsate: clear-thinking self-control} and stay alert; your adversary the devil {diabolos: malicious accuser} moves about like a roaring lion, hunting for someone to devour.
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brotherhood {adelphotiti: believing community} in the world {kosmos: created order}.
But the God {Theos, Source of Grace} of all grace, who has called you into His eternal glory in Christ {Christos, Glory Mediator}, after you have suffered a little, He Himself will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and firmly ground you.
To Him {Theos, Supreme Ruler} be the dominion forever and ever. Amen {amen: so be it}.
Through Silvanus, the faithful brother {adelphos: close spiritual kin}, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, urging you and bearing witness that this is the true grace of God {Theos, Faithful Giver}. Remain firm in it.
She who is in Babylon, chosen together {syneklekte: shared calling} with you, sends greetings to you, and so does Mark, my son {huios: spiritual disciple}.
Greet one another with a kiss {philema: affectionate greeting} of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ {Christos, Covenant Peace Giver}.
