1 But know this, that in the last {eschatais: final period} days difficult times {kairoi: appointed seasons} will come.
2 For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful {acharistoi: lacking thankfulness}, unholy {anosioi: void of reverence}.
3 They are without natural affection, implacable {aspondoi: unwilling to make peace}, slanderers {diaboloi: malicious accusers}, without self-control, brutal, not loving good.
4 Traitors, reckless, conceited {tetyphomenoi: self-inflated pride}, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God {Theos, True Devotion Worthy}.
5 Having a form of godliness {eusebeias: reverent devotion toward God} but having denied its power {dynamin: genuine spiritual force}, from such people turn away.
6 For from among these are those who enter into households and take captive weak women {gynaikaria: socially fragile women}, burdened with sins {hamartiais: accumulated guilt}, being led by various desires.
7 Always learning and never able to come to the knowledge {epignosis: deep comprehension} of the truth {aletheia: ultimate reality}.
8 But just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth; men of corrupted mind {katephtharmenoi: inwardly decayed}, disqualified concerning the faith {pistin: Christian conviction}.
9 But they will not advance any further, for their folly {anoia: stubborn blindness} will be evident {ekdelos: plainly revealed} to all, just as that of those men also became.
10 But you have closely followed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith {pistis: trust and conviction}, my patience, my love, my steadfastness {hupomone: endurance under trial}.
11 The persecutions and sufferings, such things as happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra—what kinds of persecutions I endured {hypenegka: bore severe adversity}, and out of them all the Lord {Kyrios, Faithful Rescuer} rescued me.
12 And indeed, all who desire to live in a godly manner in Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Sphere of Godliness} will be persecuted {diokthesontai: face opposition}.
13 But evil men and impostors {goetes: moral pretenders} will progress toward what is worse, deceiving {planontes: leading astray} and being deceived themselves.
14 But you, remain {mene: stay steadfast} in the things you have learned and have been assured {epistothes: firmly persuaded} of, knowing from those who taught you.
15 And that from infancy you have known the holy writings {grammata: inspired Scriptures}, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Saving Messiah}.
16 Every Scripture is God-breathed {theopneustos: divinely inspired} and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness {dikaiosyne: covenant conformity}.
17 So that the man of God {Theos, Equipping Father} may be complete {artios: spiritually fit}, equipped for every good work.
