1 Then the second lot {goral: sacred casting} came out for the tribe of the sons of Simeon according to their clans; and their inheritance was within the inheritance of Judah {Yehudah: praise}.
2 And this became their inheritance {nachalatam: allotted portion}: Beersheba, Sheba {sheba: boundary region}, and Moladah.
3 Hazar Shual {shual: fox territory}, Balah, and Azem {atzem: fortress}.
4 And Eltolad {Eltolad: settlement site}, and Betul, and Hormah {Hormah: devoted to destruction}.
5 And Ziklag {tsiklag: border town} and Beth Hamarkavot {beit hamarkavot: chariot depot} and Hazar Susah.
6 Beth Lebaoth and Sharuhen, thirteen towns {arim: urban centers} and their villages {chatserot: rural settlements}.
7 Ain, Rimmon, Eter, and Ashan—four towns {arim: distinct localities} and their villages {chatzeir: outlying settlements}.
8 And all the villages {chatsarim: unwalled settlements} that are around these towns as far as Baalath Beer—Ramath Negev—this was the inheritance {nachalah: allotted portion} of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, according to their clans.
9 From the portion of the sons of Judah came the inheritance of the sons of Simeon, for the portion of the sons of Judah was more abundant {rav: surplus} than they needed; therefore the sons of Simeon inherited amidst {betokh: in the midst} their inheritance.
10 And the third lot {goral: assigned portion} came up for the sons of Zebulun, according to their clans, and the boundary of their inheritance {nachalah: allotted land} reached as far as Sarid.
11 And their border went up to the sea and to Maralah {maralah: boundary marker}, and it touched Dabbesheth, and it reached the brook {nachal: seasonal stream} that is before Jokneam.
12 And it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrise {mizrach: place of rising}, on the border {gevul: territorial boundary} of Kisloth Tabor; then it went out to Daberath and ascended to Japhi’a.
13 And from there it passed eastward {kedmah: toward sunrise} to Gittah Hepher, Ittah Kazin, and came out at Rimmon by the boundary {hammetoar: designated border} of Neah.
14 And the boundary turned {nasav: curved or bent} northward of Hannathon, and its end was at the Valley {gey: ravine or gully} of Iphtah El.
15 Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem {Beit-Leḥem: House of Bread}—twelve cities {arim: Fortified Settlements} with their villages.
16 This is the inheritance {nachalat: legal portion} of the sons of Zebulun according to their families; these cities and their villages {chatzreihen: subsidiary settlements}.
17 For Issachar the fourth lot {goral: assigned portion} came out for the sons of Issachar according to their clans {mishpechotam: family divisions}.
18 And their boundary {gevul: designated border} was Jezreel, Kesulloth {kesulot: clustered settlements}, and Shunem.
19 Hapharaim{chapharayim: rural settlement}, Shion{sheon: hillside locality}, and Anaharath.
20 And Rabbith {harabbit: abundant settlement}, and Kishion {kishyon: fortified village}, and Ebez.
21 Remeth, En Gannim {eyn-ganim: spring of gardens}, En Haddah, and Beth {beyt: settlement place} Pazzez.
22 And the boundary reached Tabor, Shahatzimah, and Beth Shemesh, and the outgoings of their boundary were at the Jordan. There were sixteen cities {arim: urban centers} along with their villages {chatzrei-hen: rural enclosures}.
23 This was the inheritance of the tribe {matteh: tribal designation} of the sons of Issachar, according to their families {mishpachah: kinship groups}: the towns and their villages.
24 The fifth lot {chamishi: sequence of division} came out for the tribe of the descendants of Asher, according to their clans {mishpechah: extended families}.
25 And their border {gevul: boundary-marker} was Helkath, and Hali {hali: designated settlement}, and Beten, and Akshaph.
26 The boundary included Alammelek, Amad, and Mishal {mishal: tranquil spring}; then it reached Carmel toward the sea and Shihor Libnath {livnat: white heights}.
27 And it turned eastward of the sun {mizrach hashemesh: toward sunrise} to Beth Dagon, and it touched Zebulun and the valley of Iphtah-El {yiftach-el: God Opens} northward, Beth Ha’emek and Neiel, and it went out to Kabul on the left.
28 And Ebron, Rechov {rechov: boundary city}, Hammon, and Kanah {kanah: border town}, as far as the Greater Sidon.
29 And the boundary turned back toward Ramah {ramah: height} and reached the fortified city of Tyre; then it turned back to Hosah, and its outlets reached the sea from the territory of Akzib {akzib: deception}, including Mahalab.
30 Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob—twenty-two cities{arim: urban centers} and their villages{chatzer: surrounding settlements}.
31 This is the inheritance {nachalat: assigned allotment} of the tribe of the sons of Asher according to their clans {mishpechotam: family divisions}: these cities and their villages.
32 The sixth lot was cast for the sons of Naphtali {Naphtali: Contending Tribe} according to their clans {mishpechot: Kinship Groups}.
33 And their border {gevul: territorial boundary} extended from Heleph and the oak in Zaanannim, through Adami Nekeb and Jabneel to Lakkum, and its terminus was at the Jordan {Yarden: main river}.
34 The border returned westward to Aznoth-Tabor and went out from there to Chukkok, and it reached {paga: touched boundaries} in Zebulun from the south, and in Asher it reached from the west, and in Judah at the Jordan toward the east {mizrach: sunrise}.
35 The fortified {mivtzar: walled strongholds} cities {arei: urban communities} were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, and Kinnereth.
36 Adamah {adamah: territory}, Ramah, and Hazor {hatzor: fortified city}.
37 And Kedesh {qedesh: holy place}, and Edrei, and En Hazor {eyn chatzor: spring of Hazor}.
38 And Yiron, and Migdal-El {migdal-el: tower of God}, Horem, and Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh—nineteen cities with their villages {chatzreihem: rural settlements}.
39 This is the inheritance {nakhalat: allotted portion} of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali according to their clans; the cities and their villages {chatzreihen: rural settlements}.
40 For the tribe of the sons of Dan, according to their clans {mishpechot: familial divisions}, the seventh lot {goral: assigned portion} went out.
41 And the boundary {gevul: territorial demarcation} of their inheritance {nachalah: allotted possession} was Zorah, Eshtaol, and Ir Shemesh.
42 Shaalabbin {shaalabbin: Shephelah settlement}, Aiyalon, and Yitlah {yitlah: boundary landmark}.
43 And Elon {elon: oak region}, and Timnah {timnatah: assigned portion}, and Ekron.
44 Eltekeh {eltekeh: allotted city}, Gibbethon {gibbethon: Levitical town}, and Baalath.
45 Jehud, and Benei-Berak {benei-berak: agricultural district}, and Gath-Rimmon {gath-rimmon: fortified boundary city}.
46 And the waters of the Yarkon {yarkon: west-flowing river} and the Rakkon {rakkon: ancient settlement} lie with the border opposite Joppa.
47 And the border of the sons of Dan went out from them, and the sons of Dan went up against Leshem and captured it, and they struck it with the sword {cherev: cutting blade}, and they possessed and dwelt in it. And they called Leshem Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor {avihem: tribal forefather}.
48 This was the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Dan {Dan: Judge-Scion} according to their clans {mishpechot: extended families}; these towns and their villages.
49 And when they had finished apportioning the land to its boundaries {gevulot: border limits}, the sons of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua {Yehoshua: Yahweh saves} son of Nun among them.
50 According to the command {pi: mouth of authority} of the LORD {YHWH, Inheritance Giver}, they gave him the city he asked for, Timnath-Serah in the hill country of Ephraim, and he built the city and lived in it.
