1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Arbiter}, and the adversary {satan: legal opponent} was stationed at his right hand to accuse him.
2 And the LORD {YHWH, Judicial Rebuker} said to the adversary, “May the LORD rebuke you, adversary; yes, may the LORD who elects Jerusalem {habocher: electing agent} rebuke you. Is this not a firebrand rescued from the fire?”
3 And Joshua was clothed with garments of ritual defilement {tsoim: ceremonial impurity} as he stood before the angel {malakh: divine messenger}.
4 Then he spoke to those standing before him: “Remove the filthy garments {begadim: ceremonial attire} from him.” And he said to him, “See, I have caused your iniquity {avon: moral guilt} to pass away from you, and I will clothe you with festal garments.”
5 Then I said, “Let them set a pure turban {tsanif: ceremonial headdress} on his head.” They set the pure turban on his head and clothed him in garments, while the angel of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Attendant} stood at his side.
6 And the angel of the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Commander} solemnly charged {vayaad: authoritative charge} Joshua, saying,
7 Thus says the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tseva’ot, Divine Commander}: If you walk in My ways and keep My charge {mishmarti: entrusted responsibility}, then you shall rule over My house and keep watch over My courts, and I will grant you access among these who are standing here.
8 Hear now, Joshua the high priest, you and your companions who sit before you, for they are men of portent. Behold, I {YHWH, Sovereign Deliverer} am bringing my servant the Branch {tsemach: Promised Ruler}.
9 Behold the stone I have placed before Joshua—upon this single stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will carve its inscription, declares the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Commander of Armies}, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day {echad: singular unique moment}.
10 “In that day,” declares the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Supreme Commander}, “each man will call his neighbor {re'a: close companion} to come under the vine and under the fig tree.”
