And I raised my eyes{einai: organ of vision} and saw, and behold, a man carrying a measuring line{chevel: measuring cord} in his hand.
Then I inquired, “Where are you going?” And he answered me, “To measure Jerusalem {yerushalayim: foundation of peace}, to discern its breadth {rachbah: lateral extent} and its length.”
And behold, the angel {malakh: heavenly envoy} who was speaking {dover: articulate speaker} with me stepped out, and another angel stepped out to meet him.
And he said to him, “Run and speak to that youth {han-naar: Young Messenger}, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as unwalled villages {perazot: Open Settlements} because of the multitude of people and livestock in her midst.’”
And I will stand as a wall of fire encircling her, declares the LORD {YHWH, Divine Protector}, and I will be the glory {kavod: manifest presence} in her midst.
Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north {tsafon: exile region}, declares the LORD {YHWH, Summoning Judge}; for I scattered you out like the four winds of the heavens, declares the LORD.
Alas, Zion {Tziyon: God’s footstool}, escape for yourself, you who dwell with the daughter {bat: exiled community} of Babylon.
For thus says the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Commander of Armies}: After glory {kavod: divine honor} He sent me to the nations who plunder you, for whoever touches you touches the pupil of His eye.
For behold, I am shaking My hand {yad: symbol of authority} over them, and they shall stand as spoil to their servants. And you will know that the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Supreme Commander} has sent Me.
Sing and rejoice {simchi: express joy}, daughter of Zion, for behold, I come, and I will dwell within you, declares the LORD {YHWH, Divine Indweller}.
And on that day many nations will join themselves to the LORD {YHWH, Universal Gatherer}, and they will be My people {am: chosen community}; and I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.
And the LORD {YHWH, Possessor of Inheritance} will take Judah as His inheritance-portion {chelqo: allotted share} in the holy land, and He will choose Jerusalem again.
Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD {YHWH, Majestic Judge}, for He has stirred Himself up from His holy dwelling {meon: heavenly abode}.
