1 And I returned and lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold {hinneh: sudden revelation}, a flying scroll {megillah: rolled parchment}.
2 And he said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a flying scroll {megillah: rolled parchment document}; its length is twenty cubits {ba'ammah: forearm measure} and its width is ten cubits.”
3 And he said to me, "This is the curse {alah: divine sentence} that goes out over the face of all the land: for everyone who steals {gonev: unlawful taking} will be purged away on this side according to it; and everyone who swears falsely will be purged away on that side according to it."
4 I will send it out, declares the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Divine Commander}, and it will enter the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears by My name to falsehood {sheqer: willful deceit}, and it will remain in the midst of his house and consume it, both its timbers and its stones.
5 And the angel {malakh: messenger from God} who spoke with me went out and said to me, “Please lift up {sa: direct command} your eyes and see what this is that is going out.”
6 And I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is the ephah {eifah: dry measure basket} that is going out." And he said, "This is their iniquity {einam: their guilt} in all the land."
7 And behold, a talent {kikkar: unit of weight} of lead was lifted up, and this is a woman sitting in the midst of the ephah {eifah: basket measure}.
8 And he said, "This is the wickedness {rishah: morally corrupt act}." And he cast her into the midst of the ephah, and he cast the lead weight {oferet: heavy mass} upon its mouth.
9 And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, two women were going out, and the wind was in their wings. And they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah {eifah: standard dry measure} between the earth and the heavens {shamayim: celestial realm}.
10 And I said to the angel {malakh: messenger} who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the ephah {ephah: measuring basket}?”
11 And he said to me, “To build a house {bayit: symbolic dwelling} for it in the land of Shinar {shinar: ancient Mesopotamian region}. And when it is prepared, it will be set there upon its own base.”
