1 After these things I saw, and behold, a door {thyra: symbolic passage} stood open in heaven, and the first voice I had heard like a trumpet speaking to me said, “Come up here, and I {ego: Heavenly Guide} will show you what must take place after these things.”
2 Immediately I became in the Spirit {pneuma, Vision-Giving Presence}, and behold, a throne {thronos: heavenly royal seat} was set in heaven, and One was sitting on the throne.
3 And the One seated {kathemenos: Sovereign Enthroned One} was like in appearance to a jasper and a sardius stone, and a rainbow encircled the throne, like in appearance to an emerald {smaragdino: deep green gem}.
4 And surrounding the throne {thronos: central authority} were twenty-four thrones, and upon the thrones were twenty-four elders {presbyteroi: heavenly council} sitting, having been clothed in white garments, and upon their heads were crowns of gold.
5 And from the throne proceed flashes of lightning, and sounds, and thunders; and seven torches of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits {pneumata: spiritual realities} of God {Theos, Sovereign Majesty}.
6 And before the throne {thronos: royal authority seat}, there was something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal; and in the midst of the throne and around the throne were four living creatures {zōa: worshiping attendants} full of eyes in front and behind.
7 And the first living creature was like a lion, and the second living creature was like a calf, and the third living creature had the face {prosopon: expressive appearance} as a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying {petomeno: continually in motion} eagle.
8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and they do not have rest day and night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty {Kyrios Theos Pantokrator, Supreme Ruler}, who was and who is and who is coming {erchomenos: Ever-Coming Lord}.”
9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanksgiving {eucharistian: expressed gratitude} to the One {Theos, Eternally Living King} sitting on the throne, to the One living forever and ever,
10 The twenty-four elders will fall down before the One who sits on the throne and will worship the Living One {zōnti: continually alive} forever and ever, and they will cast their crowns {stephanous: victor’s reward} before the throne, saying:
11 Worthy are You, our Lord and God {Kyrios kai Theos hemon, Sovereign Creator}, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because You created all things, and through Your will {thelema: determined purpose} they existed and were created.
