Ask rain from the LORD {YHWH, Rain Giver} in the time of the latter rain. The LORD makes storm clouds, and He will give them rain showers, granting to each man grass {esev: green shoot} in the field.
For the teraphim {hatterafim: household idols} have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen falsehood, and dreams of futility they speak; emptiness they offer for comfort. Therefore they have wandered like sheep; they are afflicted because there is no shepherd {rōʿeh: guiding leader}.
My anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I will punish the male goats; for the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Divine Commander} has visited His flock, the house of Judah, and has made them like His majestic horse {ke-sus: powerful war steed} in battle.
From him {mimmennu: restored people} shall come the corner {pinnah: boundary stone}, from him the tent peg, from him the battle bow, and from him every ruler together.
And they will be like mighty men, treading down in the mud of the streets in the battle, and they will fight because the LORD {YHWH, Mighty Deliverer} is with them, and they will put to shame the riders of horses {susim: war animals}.
And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph; and I will bring them back to settle them, for I have had compassion {richamtem: deep mercy} on them; and they will be as though I had not cast them off. For I am the LORD their God {YHWH Elohehem, Merciful Restorer}, and I will answer them.
And Ephraim shall be like a mighty man {gibbor: strong warrior}, and their heart shall rejoice as with wine; their children shall see it and rejoice, and their heart shall exult in the LORD {YHWH, Joy Giver}.
I {YHWH, Shepherd Restorer} will whistle for them and gather them, for I have redeemed them. And they will multiply {veravu: flourish abundantly} as they have multiplied before.
And I will sow them among the peoples, and in the distant places they will remember Me {YHWH, Restoring God}, and they will live {chayu: flourish} with their children, and they will return.
And I {YHWH, Restorer} will bring them back {hashivotim: restoration act} from the land of Egypt and from Assyria I will gather them, and to the land of Gilead and to Lebanon I will bring them, and no place will be found for them.
He {YHWH, Sovereign Deliverer} will pass through the sea of distress and strike its waves, and all the depths {metsulot: deep places} of the river will dry up, and the pride of Assyria will be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt will depart.
And I will strengthen them in the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Empowerer}, and in His name they will walk {yithallaku: habitual conduct}, declares the LORD.
