It is actually {holos: plainly the case} being reported among you that there is sexual immorality {porneia: illicit sexual union}, and a kind of sexual immorality not even found among the nations—namely that a man has his father’s wife.
And you are arrogant {pephusioomai: inflated self-importance}, and you have not rather mourned, so that the one who has done this deed might be removed from among {mesos: shared fellowship} you.
For I, though absent in the body {soma: physical frame} but present in the spirit, have already judged {krino: rendered verdict}, as though I were present, the one who has done this in such a way.
In the name {onoma: representative authority} of our Lord Jesus {Kyrios Iesous, Ruling Judge}, when you are assembled and my spirit is present with the power of our Lord Jesus,
You are to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh {sarx: fleshly self}, so that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord {Kyrios, Eschatological Judge}.
What you boast {kauchema: arrogant self-confidence} about is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven {zyme: corrupting influence} spreads through the entire lump?
Clear out the old leaven {zyme: corrupting influence} so that you may be a new lump, just as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ {Christos, Anointed Sacrifice} our Passover has been sacrificed.
So then, let us celebrate {heortazomen: ongoing worship} the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity {eilikrineias: inner transparency} and truth.
I wrote to you in the letter {epistole: written message} not to associate with fornicators {pornoi: sexually immoral persons}.
I did not mean exclusively the fornicators {pornoi: sexually immoral people} of this world, or the covetous and extortioners, or idolaters, because then you would be required to go out of the world {kosmos: human society}.
But now I am writing to you not to associate {synanamignysthai: maintain close fellowship} with anyone who is called a brother {adelphos: professing believer} if he is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one you are not even to eat.
For what concern is it of mine to judge those outside {exo: people beyond community}? Is it not those inside {eso: ones within fellowship} that you judge?
But those outside, God {Theos, Righteous Judge Of Outsiders} judges. Remove the wicked person {poneros: morally corrupt member} from among yourselves.
