1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord {Kyrios, Reigning Sender} may run {trecho: advance rapidly} and be glorified, just as it was among you.
2 And in order that we might be delivered {rhysthomen: safely brought out} from unreasonable and wicked men, for faith {pistis: trusting allegiance} is not present in everyone.
3 But the Lord {Kyrios, Faithful Protector} is faithful; He will establish you and guard you from the evil one {poneros: evil one}.
4 And we have confidence in the Lord {Kyrios, Faithful Enabler} concerning you, that the things which we command, you are doing and you will do {poieite: keep carrying out faithfully}.
5 And may the Lord {Kyrios, Heart Guide} direct your hearts into the love of God {Theos, Source Of Love} and into the endurance of Christ {Christos, Enduring Savior}.
6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Supreme Authority}, to withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition {paradosin: received teaching} which they received from us.
7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate {mimeisthai: copy our conduct} us, because we did not act disorderly {etaktesamen: behave without proper discipline} among you.
8 Nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor {kopo: strenuous effort} and hardship {mochtho: exhausting toil}, night and day, working so that we would not burden any of you.
9 Not that we do not have authority {exousia: rightful power}, but in order that we might give ourselves as a pattern {tupon: mold to follow} for you, for you to imitate us.
10 For even when we were with you, this we kept commanding {parangello: repeatedly instruct} you: that if anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat {esthieto: receive food}.
11 For we hear that some among you are walking {peripatountas: manner of conduct} in a disorderly {ataktōs: out of order} manner, not working at all, but meddling in others’ affairs.
12 But to such ones we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Ruling Lord and Redeemer} that, working with quietness {hesuchia: peaceful spirit}, they may eat their own bread.
13 But you, brothers {adelphoi: fellow believers}, do not become weary {enkakēsēte: lose heart} in doing good.
14 But if anyone does not obey our word {logos: authoritative instruction} through this letter, mark that person and do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame {entrape: feel restorative shame}.
15 And do not regard him as an enemy {echthros: hostile opponent}, but admonish him as a brother {adelphos: close family member}.
16 Now may the Lord {Kyrios, Divine Peace-Giver} of peace Himself grant you peace {eirene: wholeness, harmony} always in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
17 The greeting in my own hand, Paul’s {Paulou: confirming authorship}, which is the sign {semeion: distinguishing mark} in every letter; thus I write.
18 The grace {charis: undeserved favor and strength} of our Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Faithful Giver of Grace} be with you all.
