1 And King David said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, the one whom God {Elohim, Sovereign Chooser} has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The work is great, for this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God {YHWH Elohim, Supreme Dwelling}.”
2 And according to all my strength, I have prepared for the house of my God {Elohai, Temple Beneficiary}—gold for gold work, silver for silver work, bronze for bronze work, iron for iron work, and wood for wood work; onyx stones, stones for settings, antimony {pukh: dark mineral used for adornment}, variegated stones {riqmah: decorative colored stones}, every precious stone, and marble stones in abundance.
3 Moreover, in my delight {birtzoti: heartfelt desire} in the house of my God {Elohim, Desired Dweller}, I have for myself a special treasure of gold and silver that I have given to the house of my God, above all that I have prepared for the holy house.
4 Three thousand talents of gold from Ophir and seven thousand talents of silver refined {mezukkaq: purified by fire} for overlaying the walls {kirot: protective structures} of the houses.
5 Gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, and for every task {melakhah: temple work} to be performed by skilled craftsmen; and who is willing to volunteer to consecrate his hand today for the LORD {YHWH, Recipient of Offerings}?
6 And the chiefs of the fathers {avot: Ancestral Patriarchs}, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands {alafim: Military Divisions} and hundreds, and the officials overseeing the king’s work, offered themselves willingly.
7 And they gave for the work of the house of God {haElohim: Worship Center} gold—five thousand talents {kikkarim: ancient weight unit} and ten thousand darics—and silver—ten thousand talents—and bronze—eighteen thousand talents—and iron—one hundred thousand talents.
8 And whoever was found with stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Temple Dedication} by the hand {yad: personal supervision} of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced over their willingness, because in a whole heart {lev: undivided loyalty} they volunteered to the LORD {YHWH, Worthy Receiver}; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10 And David blessed the LORD {YHWH, Eternal King} before the eyes of all the assembly {hakahal: communal gathering}, and David said, “Blessed are You, LORD, God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.”
11 To You, LORD {YHWH, Supreme Ruler}, belong greatness, power, glory, victory, and splendor, for everything in the heavens and on the earth is Yours. The kingdom is Yours, LORD, and You are lifted up as the head {rosh: preeminent leader} over all.
12 Wealth {osher: material abundance} and honor originate from before You {YHWH, Sovereign Ruler}. You preside over all things, and in Your hand lie strength and might. By Your hand You bestow greatness and fortify all.
13 And now, our God {Eloheinu, Audience of Praise}, we are giving thanks to You, and we are praising the Name {shem: public renown} of Your splendor.
14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should have the strength to offer {lehitnaddev: voluntary offering} like this? For everything is from You {YHWH, Sovereign Source}, and we have given to You only what came from Your hand.
15 For we are sojourners and dwellers before You {YHWH, Ever-Present Witness}, as were all our fathers; our days upon the earth are like a shadow {tsel: fleeting passage}, and there is nothing abiding.
16 LORD our God {YHWH Eloheinu, Covenant Giver}, all this abundance which we have prepared to build a house for the holiness {kodshekha: sacredness} of Your Name has come from Your hand, and everything belongs to You.
17 And I have known, my God{Elohai, Heart Tester}, that You test the heart{levav: inner self} and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. And now I have seen with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.
18 LORD God {YHWH Elohei, Covenant Sustainer} of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the inclination {yetser: inner purpose} of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and establish their heart toward You.
19 And to Solomon my son, give a whole heart to keep Your {YHWH, Divine Lawgiver} commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes, and to do everything and to build the temple {habirah: sanctuary-palace} which I have prepared.
20 And David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the LORD {YHWH, Worship Receiver} your God.” And all the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers {elohei avoteihem: ancestral God}, and they bowed and prostrated themselves to the LORD and to the king.
21 And they offered sacrifices {zevakhim: communal worship} to the LORD {YHWH, Sacrifice Receiver}, and on the next day offered burnt offerings to the LORD: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand male lambs—together with their drink offerings and abundant sacrifices for all Israel.
22 And they ate and drank in the presence of the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Host} on that day, with great joy {simchah: festive celebration}. Then they made Solomon son of David king again and anointed him to the LORD as ruler and Zadok as priest.
23 And Solomon sat upon the throne of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Ruler} as king in the place of his father David, and he prospered {vayatslach: succeeded well}, and all Israel obeyed him.
24 And all the officials {sarim: Royal Counselors}, the mighty men, and all the sons of King David submitted themselves to King Solomon {Shlomoh: Peace Bringer}.
25 And the LORD {YHWH, Exalter of Rulers} caused Solomon to be profoundly esteemed in the eyes of all Israel, and He placed upon him royal majesty {hod: kingly radiance} such as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 And David {Dāwîḏ: anointed monarch} the son of Jesse became king over all Israel {Yisrāʾēl: united nation}.
27 And the days {yamim: chronological marker} which he reigned over Israel were forty years; in Hebron {Cheveron: transitional capital} he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.
28 And he died in a favorable old age{beseivah: dignified longevity}, full of days, riches, and honor. Then Solomon his son became king after him{takhtav: succeeding his father}.
29 The first and last acts of King David, behold, are written in the words of Samuel the seer {roeh: one who sees visions}, in the words of Nathan the prophet {navi: one who proclaims}, and in the words of Gad the seer.
30 Together with all his reign and his might {gevurah: strength and valor}, and the times {ittim: significant events} that passed over him and over Israel and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
