1 The word that Isaiah {yesha‘yahu: Yahweh is salvation} son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem {yerushalayim: city of peace}.
2 And it will come to pass in the latter days that the mountain {har: elevated place of meeting} of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant King} will be established at the head of the mountains and will be lifted up above the hills, and all the nations will stream to it.
3 And many peoples shall go and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD {YHWH, Teacher of Nations}, to the house of the God of Jacob, and He will teach us from His ways {midrachav: life direction}, and we shall walk in His paths; for from Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
4 And He {YHWH, Universal Judge} will judge {shafat: to act with justice} between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples, and they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. No nation will lift up sword against another nation, and they will not learn war any more.
5 House of Jacob, come, and let us walk in the light {or: illuminating presence} of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Guide}.
6 Because You {YHWH, Righteous Judge} have abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob, for they are filled from the east, are soothsayers like the Philistines, and clasp hands with the offspring {yaldei: foreign descendants} of foreigners.
7 And their land was filled with silver and gold, and there was no end to their treasures {otsrotav: accumulated wealth}; and their land was filled with horses, and there was no end to their chariots {markevotav: wheeled war vehicles}.
8 And their land was filled with idols {elilim: powerless images}, and they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers {etzbeotav: skilled craftsmanship} have made.
9 And man {adam: fallen humanity} is brought low, and a person is humbled; do not forgive {tissa: bear away, pardon} them.
10 Enter into the rock and hide yourself in the dust from the presence of the dread of the LORD {YHWH, Awe-Inspiring Sovereign} and from the splendor of His majesty {ge'on: exalted greatness}.
11 The eyes of the proud {gavhut: prideful arrogance} in man will be humbled, and the arrogance of men will be brought low; and the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Exalter} alone will be exalted in that day.
12 For the day of the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Heavenly Commander} will come upon every proud {ge’eh: self-exalting attitude} and lofty one, and he will be brought low.
13 And upon all the cedars{arzei: majestic trees} of Lebanon—the high and the lofty—and upon all the oaks{allonei: powerful trees} of Bashan.
14 And upon all the high mountains {heharim: lofty heights} and upon all the hills {nissaʾot: exalted elevations} that are lifted up.
15 And upon every high tower {migdal: elevated edifice} and upon every fortified wall {chomah: defensive barrier}.
16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish {tarshish: distant seafaring region}, and upon all pleasant displays {chemdah: prized treasures}.
17 And the loftiness {gavhut: prideful elevation} of man shall be humbled, and the height of men shall be brought low; and the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Exalter} alone shall be exalted in that day.
18 And the idols {elilim: worthless idols} shall utterly vanish {yachalof: pass away completely}.
19 And they will go into the caves of the rocks and into the holes of the earth, from the presence of the terror of the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Overseer} and from the splendor {hadar: majestic radiance} of His majesty when He rises to shake the earth.
20 In that day, the man will cast away his silver idols and his gold idols, which each one made for himself to worship, to the moles {lachpor: burrowing creatures} and to the bats {atalefim: night-flying creatures}.
21 To go into the clefts of the rocks and into the crevices of the crags, from before the terror of the LORD {YHWH, Majestic Judge} and the splendor {hadar: radiant glory} of His majesty, when He rises to terrify the earth.
22 Cease for yourselves from the man whose breath{neshamah: animating life} is in his nostril, for in what is he counted{nechshav: counted worthy}?
