1 Now about the collection {logeia: organized contribution} for the saints {hagioi: consecrated people}: you must do what I instructed the churches of Galatia.
2 On the first day of each week, each of you should set aside something for yourself in private, storing up {thesaurizōn: gradually accumulating} whatever he may prosper, so that when I come there will be no collections {logeiai: planned offerings}.
3 When I arrive, I will send those whom you approve {dokimasete: carefully select}, with letters, to carry your gift {charin: generous contribution} to Jerusalem.
4 But if it is considered appropriate {axion: fitting decision} that I also should go {poreuesthai: take this trip}, they will go with me.
5 I will come {eleusomai: planned arrival} to you after I pass through Macedonia {Makedonia: northern Greek province}, because I am traveling through that region.
6 But perhaps {tychon: uncertain possibility} I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way wherever I may go {poreuomai: travel onward}.
7 I do not want to see you now only in passing {parodos: brief stopover}; rather, I hope to remain with you for some time, if the Lord {Kyrios, Sovereign Guide} permits.
8 But I will remain in Ephesus {Ephesos: major port city} until Pentecost {pentekoste: fiftieth-day feast}.
9 For a broad and productive door has been opened to me {moi: to Paul personally}, and there are many adversaries {antikeimenoi: determined opponents}.
10 Now if Timothy {Timotheos: trusted coworker} comes, make sure he is with you without fear, for he is doing the work of the Lord {Kyrios, Director of Ministry}, just as I am.
11 Therefore, let no one despise {exoutheneo: treat as nothing} him; instead, send him on his way in peace so that he may come to me, for I am awaiting him with the brothers {adelphoi: fellow believers}.
12 Now concerning our brother Apollos, I strongly urged {parekalesa: earnestly requested} him to come to you with the brothers, but it was by no means his will that he should come now; he will, however, come when he has the opportunity {eukairēsē: finds suitable time}.
13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men {andrizesthe: display courageous resolve}, be strong {krataiousthe: remain unwavering}.
14 Let all things {panta: every action} among you be done in love {agape: self-giving devotion}.
15 Now I appeal to you, brothers {adelphoi: fellow believers}: you know that the household of Stephanas is the firstfruit {aparche: pioneer converts} of Achaia and that they have devoted themselves to service for the saints.
16 So you also submit yourselves to such people, and to everyone who works together {synergeo: collaborates} and labors {kopiao: toils with effort}.
17 But I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas {Stephanas: trusted representative} and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because these men have filled up your lack {hysterema: deficiency or absence}.
18 For they have refreshed my spirit {pneuma: inner being} and yours; therefore recognize such as these {toioutous: this kind}.
