1 When the twenty years were completed, Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD {YHWH, Temple Dweller} and his own house {beit: dwelling place}.
2 Solomon rebuilt the cities {he‘arim: regional towns} that Huram had given him, and he settled the sons of Israel {benei Yisrael: tribal descendants} in them.
3 Then Solomon {Shelomoh: Royal Builder} went to Hamath Zobah and subdued {yekhezak: Subdued by Strength} it.
4 And he built Tadmor {tadmor: strategic oasis city} in the wilderness and all the store-cities, which he had built in Hamath {hamat: northern border fortress}.
5 And he built Upper Beth Horon and Lower Beth Horon as fortified cities {matsor: siege-defense towns}, with walls, gates {delatayim: two-leaved gates}, and bars.
6 He built Baalath and all the store cities {miskenot: Supply Centers} that belonged to Solomon, and all the cities of the chariots and the horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and throughout the land under his rule {memshalah: Authority}.
7 All {kol: totality} the people who remained {ha-notar: those left behind} from the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites were not from Israel.
8 From their sons {beneihem: later offspring} who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel did not destroy, Solomon pressed them into forced labor {mas: corvee duty} until this day.
9 But from the Israelites, Solomon did not give any as slaves for his work; for they were men of war {anshei milhamah: trained fighters}, and the officers of his captains {shalishav: elite aides}, and the officers of his chariotry, and his horsemen.
10 And these were the officials {sarei: chief magistrates}, the overseers who belonged to King Solomon—two hundred and fifty who ruled over the people {ha-am: assembled nation}.
11 And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh {par'o: Egyptian ruler} from the city of David to the house that he had built for her, for he said, “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David, king of Israel, because those places are holy where the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Holy Presence} has entered.”
12 Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to the LORD {YHWH, Worship Recipient} on the altar of the LORD that he had built before the portico {ulam: entrance hall}.
13 And according to the daily requirement, to offer up, as commanded by Moses {Mosheh: lawgiver}, on the Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the appointed festivals—three times in the year: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread {matzot: bread without leaven}, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Tabernacles.
14 And he appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the divisions of the priests for their service {avodah: sacred temple work}, and the Levites for their duties, to praise and to minister before the priests as each day’s requirement demanded, and the gatekeepers in their divisions for every gate. For thus was the commandment of David, the man of God {ish-haElohim: prophetic authority}.
15 And they did not turn aside from the command {mitsvat: authoritative mandate} of the king concerning the priests and the Levites in any matter or concerning the treasuries {otzarot: wealth repositories}.
16 All of Solomon’s work was established from the day the foundation {musad: first stone laid} of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Lord} was laid until it reached completion. Then the house of the LORD was finished.
17 Then Solomon went to Ezion-Geber {etzyon-geber: Gulf port} and to Eloth on the shore of the sea in the land of Edom {edom: ancestral territory}.
18 And Huram sent him ships and servants—men who had knowledge of the sea {yod’ei yam: skilled seafarers}. They went with Solomon’s servants to Ophir and took from there four hundred and fifty talents {kikar: unit of weight} of gold, and they brought it to King Solomon.
