1 And as Solomon finished praying, the fire descended from the heavens and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Presence} filled the house {bayit: temple sanctuary}.
2 And the priests were not able to enter the house of the LORD {YHWH, Indwelling Presence}, because the glory {kavod: divine splendor} of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.
3 And all the sons of Israel saw the fire descending and the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Revealer} upon the house. And they knelt with their faces to the ground upon the pavement and prostrated themselves and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, “For He is good {tov: morally excellent}; for His steadfast love endures forever.”
4 And the king and all the people offered a sacrifice {zevach: cultic offering} before the LORD {YHWH, Worship Recipient}.
5 King Solomon sacrificed {vayizbakh: ritual offering} twenty-two thousand cattle and one hundred twenty thousand sheep. Then the king and all the people dedicated the house of God {Elohim: Sacred Dwelling}.
6 And the priests were standing on their stations, and the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD {YHWH, Worship Receiver} that King David had made to give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love {chasdo: loyal covenant devotion} is forever, as they gave praise in their ministry; opposite them the priests were blowing trumpets, and all Israel was standing.
7 And Solomon consecrated the middle part of the courtyard before the house of the LORD {YHWH, Sanctuary Owner}, because there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat portions of the fellowship offerings. The bronze altar that Solomon had made could not contain the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat portions {chelvei: choice parts}.
8 And Solomon {shlomo: Royal builder} held the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel was with him in a very great assembly from the entrance of Hamath to the wadi {nachal: seasonal river} of Egypt.
9 And on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly {aseret: sacred gathering}, for they had celebrated the dedication {hanukkat: consecration festival} of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days.
10 And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month, he sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and with hearts filled with gladness over the goodness that the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Benefactor} had done for David and for Solomon and for Israel His people {am: covenant community}.
11 And Solomon finished the house of the LORD {YHWH, Temple Dweller} and the house of the king, and he succeeded in accomplishing all that came upon the heart {lev: seat of intention} of Solomon to do in the house of the LORD and in his own house.
12 And the LORD {YHWH, Theophanic Initiator} appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer {tefillah: covenant request}, and I have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.”
13 If I {YHWH, Sovereign Judge} restrain the heavens so that there is no rain {matar: life-giving rain}, and if I command the locust to devour the land, and if I send a plague among My people.
14 And if My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their evil ways {darekheihem: life patterns}, then I {YHWH: Restorer and Healer} will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
15 Now My {YHWH, Attentive Listener} eyes will be open, and My ears attentive to the prayer of this place {makom: sacred site}.
16 And now I {YHWH, Sanctuary Patron} have chosen and consecrated {vehikdashti: sacred dedication} this house so that My Name may dwell there forever. My eyes and My heart shall be there for all the days.
17 Now as for you, if you walk before Me {YHWH, Commanding King} just as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and keep My statutes {chukkai: binding decrees} and My judgments,
18 And I {YHWH, Dynasty Preserver} will establish the throne of your kingdom, just as I made a covenant with David your father, saying, “You will not lack {yikkaret: be cut off} a man ruling in Israel.”
19 And if you turn back, you yourselves, and forsake My {YHWH, Holy Lawgiver} statutes and My commandments that I have given before you, and you go and serve other gods {elohim: false deities} and bow down to them.
20 And I {YHWH, Sovereign Judge} will uproot {unetashtim: forceful removal} them from My land which I have given to them, and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast away from before My presence, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all the peoples.
21 And this house, which was exalted {elyon: lifted high}, will appall everyone who passes by it; they will say, “Why has the LORD {YHWH, Disciplinary Judge} done thus to this land and to this house?”
22 And they will say, “Because they forsook the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Judge} their God {elohei: Ancestral Guide}, who brought them out from the land of Egypt and clung to other gods, bowing down and serving them; therefore He brought upon them all this disaster {hara’ah: Calamity as covenant consequence}.”
