1 After the Sabbath {sabbaton: day of rest}, as it was dawning toward the first day of the week, Mary the Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb {taphos: burial place}.
2 And behold, a great earthquake {seismos: violent shaking} occurred, for an angel of the Lord {Kyrios, Supreme Lord}, descending from heaven and approaching, rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
3 But his appearance {eidea: visible form} was like lightning, and his clothing was white as snow {chion: pure bright whiteness}.
4 But from fear {phobos: overwhelming terror} of him, the guards were shaken and became like dead men {nekroi: lifeless, unmoving}.
5 But the angel {angelos: divine messenger} said to the women, “You, do not be afraid; for I know that you are seeking Jesus {Iesous, Crucified Savior}, the One who has been crucified.”
6 He {Iesous, Risen Lord} is not here, for He has been raised, just as He said. Come, see the place {topos: burial location} where He was lying.
7 And go quickly, tell His disciples that He {Iesous, Risen Forerunner} has been raised from the dead, and behold, He goes before you into Galilee {Galilaia: place of further meeting}; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.
8 And having gone quickly away from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to report to His {Iesous, Risen Master} disciples {mathetes: devoted learners}.
9 And behold, Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} met them, saying, “Greetings!” And the women, having come up, took hold of His feet and worshiped {proskuneo: paid homage} Him.
10 Then Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} says to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell My brothers {adelphoi: fellow disciples and spiritual kin} to go into Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard {koustodia: guard detail} came into the city and reported to the chief priests {archiereus: leading priests} all the things that had happened.
12 And having gathered with the elders {presbyteron: ruling council}, and having taken counsel {symboulion: joint decision}, they gave a considerable amount of silver to the soldiers,
13 Saying, “Say that His {Iesous, Crucified Lord} disciples {mathetai: devoted students} came by night and stole Him while we were sleeping.”
14 And if this is heard by the governor, we will persuade him {peisomen: win his favor} and we will make you free from concern {amerimnous: without anxiety}.
15 But they, having taken the silver coins, did just as they were instructed. And this message was spread {diephemisthe: widely circulated} among the Jews until this very day {semeron: present time}.
16 But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} had appointed them {mathetai: devoted learners}.
17 And when they saw Him {Iesous, Risen Lord}, they worshiped {proskuneo: bowed in homage} Him, but some doubted.
18 And Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} came near and spoke to them, saying, “All authority {exousia: delegated rule} in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
19 Therefore, having gone, make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father {pater: Heavenly Origin} and of the Son {huios: Unique Offspring} and of the Holy Spirit {pneuma: Divine Presence}.
20 Teaching them to observe {tereo: careful, ongoing obedience} all that I have commanded you, and behold, I {Iesous, Ever-Present Lord} am with you all the days until the completion {sunteleia: final fulfillment} of the age.
