1 And it came to pass when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Architect} and the house of the king, and all the desire of Solomon {cheshek: earnest longing} which he delighted to do.
2 And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Appearing One} appeared to Solomon a second time, just as He had appeared to him in Gibeon {Giv'on: place of divine encounter}.
3 And the LORD {YHWH, Temple Sanctifier} said to him, “I have heard your prayer {tefillah: formal entreaty} and your supplication, which you have pleaded before Me. I have consecrated this house {bayit: sacred dwelling} that you have built, to put My Name there forever. My Eyes and My Heart will be there all the days.”
4 And you—if you walk before Me {YHWH, Sovereign Judge} just as David your father walked, in integrity {tam-levav: wholeness of inner being} of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I commanded you, and keep My statutes and My ordinances.
5 And I {YHWH, Covenant Upholder} will establish the throne of your kingdom {mamlakha: royal authority} over Israel forever, as I spoke concerning David your father, saying, ‘There shall not be cut off from you a man upon the throne of Israel.’
6 If you or your sons turn away from following Me {YHWH, Covenant Upholder} and do not keep My commandments {mitzvotai: authoritative instructions} or My statutes that I have given before you, and go to serve other gods and bow down to them.
7 And I {YHWH, Covenant Judge} will cut off Israel from upon the face of the land which I have given to them, and the house which I have sanctified for My Name I will cast away from My Presence; and Israel will become a proverb {mashal: teaching by example} and a taunt among all the peoples.
8 And this house, which is high, will become an object of horror; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss in scorn. Then they will say, “Why has the LORD {YHWH, Judicial Actor} done such a thing to this land {aretz: territorial possession} and to this house?”
9 And they will say, “Because they have forsaken the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Redeemer} their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt {Mitzrayim: place of bondage} and have clung to other gods and bowed down and served them, therefore the LORD has brought upon them all this calamity.”
10 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD{YHWH, Temple Patron} and the house of the king{melech: seat of authority}.
11 Hiram king of Tyre had supplied {nissa: provided as support} Solomon with cedar wood, cypress wood, and gold according to all his desire; then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee {Galil: northern district}.
12 And Hiram went out from Tyre to see the towns {he’arim: settled communities} which Solomon had given to him, but they were not pleasing {yashru: acceptable quality} to him.
13 And he said, “What are these cities {ha‘ārîm: fortified settlements} that you have given me, my brother?” And he called them the land of Kabul {kabul: bound territory} until this day.
14 And Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents {kikkar: weight unit} of gold {zahav: precious metal commodity}.
15 And this is the account of the forced labor {mas: required labor levy} which King Solomon imposed to build the house of the LORD {YHWH, Worship Center}, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
16 Pharaoh king of Egypt went up and captured Gezer {gezer: fortified Canaanite city}, and he burned it with fire. And the Canaanite who dwelt in the city he killed, and he gave it as dowries {shilluḥim: marriage gifts} to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
17 And Solomon {Shlomo, Royal Builder} built Gezer and Lower Beth Horon {beit Choron: fortified settlement}.
18 And Baalath {baalat: fortified town} and Tamar, Tadmor, in the wilderness {midbar: arid steppe}, in the land.
19 And all the store-cities {miskenot: supply centers} belonging to Solomon, the cities for the chariots and the cities for the horsemen, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion {memshalah: territory under his authority}.
20 All the people who remained {nōṭar: remnant survivors} from the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites—those who were not sons {bənê: direct descendants} of Israel.
21 Their descendants who remained after them in the land—those whom the sons of Israel {benei Yisrael: covenant people} could not utterly destroy—were consigned as forced laborers {mas-oved: tribute service} under Solomon, and this continues to this day.
22 But from the Israelites, Solomon did not make a slave, for they were men of war {anshei: battle-seasoned fighters}, and his servants, and his officers, and his captains, and commanders of his chariot, and his horsemen {parashav: cavalry soldiers}.
23 These were the chiefs of the overseers who were over the work for Solomon {shelomoh: Royal Patron}: 550, ruling {rodim: labor governors} over the people doing the work.
24 But Pharaoh’s daughter went up from the city {ir: David’s citadel} of David to her house that he built for her; then he built the Millo {millo: fortified fill}.
25 Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings three times a year on the altar he had built for the LORD {YHWH, Cultic Recipient}, made smoke offerings with it before Him, and completed the house {bayit: temple structure}.
26 King Solomon {shlomo: Royal Builder} made ships at Ezion-Geber {etsion geber: Port Terminus}, which was beside Eloth on the shore of the Sea of Reeds in the land of Edom.
27 Hiram sent his servants with the ships—men of ships {anshei oniyot: professional mariners} who were knowers of the sea {yod’ei hayam: expert sailors}—with the servants of Solomon.
28 And they came to Ophir {Ofirah: maritime port} and took from there four hundred and twenty talents {kikar: weight unit} of gold and brought them to King Solomon.
