2 Peter 1TAB

1 Simeon Peter, a servant {doulos: devoted attendant} and apostle of Jesus Christ {Iesous Christos, Anointed Savior}, to those who have received a faith {pistis: covenant trust} of equal value with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 Grace {charis: generous divine favor} and peace be increased for you in the knowledge {epignosis: full relational understanding} of God {Theos, Gracious Revealer} and of Jesus our Lord {Iesous kyrios: Saving Lord}.

3 As His {autou: divine source} divine power has granted to us everything that pertains to life and godliness through the knowledge {epignōsis: deep recognition} of the One who called us by His own glory and virtue.

4 Through these, He has granted to us the precious and very great promises {epangelmata: covenant assurances}, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption {phthoras: moral decay} that is in the world because of desire.

5 And for this very reason, bringing in all diligence {spouden: wholehearted effort}, supply in your faith the virtue, and in the virtue, the knowledge {gnosin: practical understanding}.

6 And in your knowledge {gnosis: practical understanding}, self-control; and in your self-control, endurance; and in your endurance, godliness {eusebeia: reverent devotion}.

7 And in your godliness {eusebeia: devoted reverence}, brotherly affection; and in your brotherly affection {philadelphia: family-like concern}, love.

8 For if these things are yours and keep increasing, they keep you from becoming idle {argos: spiritually inactive} or without fruit in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Center of True Knowledge}.

9 For the one to whom these things are not present is blind {typhlos: spiritually unseeing}, being nearsighted, having received forgetfulness of the cleansing of his former sins {hamartemata: acts of wrongdoing}.

10 Therefore, brothers, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure {bebaian: firm, unwavering}; for as you practice these things you will never stumble {ptaisete: trip, lose footing}.

11 For in this way a rich entrance {eisodos: assured access} will be granted to you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ {Kyrios kai Soter Iesous Christos, Giver of Entrance}.

12 Therefore, I intend always to remind {hypomimnēskein: call to mind} you about these things, although you have known them and have been established in the present truth {alētheia: revealed reality}.

13 But I consider it right, as long as I am in this tent {skenomati: temporary dwelling}, to stir you up {diegeirein: rouse to alertness} by reminding you.

14 Knowing that the removal {apothesis: death departure} of my tent will be swift, just as also our Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Prophetic Revealer} made it clear to me.

15 But I will also make every effort so that you may always have, after my departure {exodos: passing away}, the remembrance {mneme: mindful recollection} of these things.

16 For we did not rely on cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ {Iesous Christos, Glorious King}; rather, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty {megalaiotes: overwhelming splendor}.

17 For, having received honor and glory from God the Father {Theos pater, Giver of Honor}, when such a voice was brought to Him from the Majestic Glory {megaloprepes doxa, Radiant Presence}, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I was well pleased.”

18 And we ourselves heard this voice {phone: divine declaration} brought from heaven when we were with Him {Iesous, Glorified Son} on the holy mountain.

19 And we have the prophetic word {logos: Spirit-given revelation} as something firmly confirmed, and you do well to pay attention to it like a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star {phosphoros: triumphant light} rises in your hearts.

20 Let this first principle be clear: no prophecy {propheteia: inspired declaration} of Scripture stems from personal interpretation {epilyseos: personal explanation}.

21 For prophecy was never brought forth by human will, but men spoke from God {Theos, Source of Prophecy} as they were borne along by the Holy Spirit {pneuma hagiou, Sanctifying Guide}.
