1 Then the LORD {YHWH, Mighty Liberator} said to Moses, “Now you will see what I am about to do to Pharaoh. Because of a strong hand {chazakah: irresistible might} he will send them away, and because of a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
2 And God {Elohim, Divine Speaker} spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant-Revealer}.”
3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty {El Shaddai, All-Sufficient Provider}, but I did not make myself known to them by my name the LORD {YHWH, Self-Revealing}.
4 And I {YHWH, Covenant Keeper} also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings {megureihem: temporary dwellings} in which they sojourned.
5 And also I {YHWH, Compassionate Hearer} have heard the groaning {na’akat: anguished outcry} of the sons of Israel, whom Egypt is enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
6 Therefore say to the Israelites, “I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Redeemer}. I will bring you out from beneath the burdens {sivlot: Forced Labors} of the Egyptians; I will deliver you from their service; and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.”
7 I will take you to myself as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Redeemer}, who brings you out from under the burdens {sivlot: forced labor} of Egypt.
8 I will bring you into the land that I lifted up my hand {yad: oath gesture} to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Fulfiller}.
9 Moses {Mosheh: spokesperson} spoke these words to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen because of shortness of spirit {ruach: crushed spirit} and because of harsh labor.
10 And the LORD {YHWH, Divine Speaker} spoke to Moses, saying {lemor: introduction of direct speech}.
11 Go in and speak to Pharaoh {paroh: oppressive ruler}, king of Egypt, so that he sends out the sons of Israel from his land {erets: territorial domain}.
12 Moses spoke before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Advocate}, saying, “See, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me when my lips are uncircumcised {ʿărel: lacking eloquence}?”
13 And the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Commander} spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and He gave them a charge concerning the people of Israel and concerning Pharaoh {Parʿoh: oppressive ruler}, king of Egypt, to bring the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
14 These are the heads {rashei: clan leaders} of the house of their fathers; the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch and Pallu, Chetsron and Karmi. These are the families {mishpechot: extended households} of Reuben.
15 And the sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman {kena'anit: maternal lineage}; these were the clans {mishpechot: extended family groups} of Simeon.
16 And these are the names of the sons {benei: tribal lineage} of Levi according to their genealogies {toldotam: ancestral records}: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of Levi’s life were one hundred thirty-seven years.
17 The sons of Gershon {gershon: family head} were Libni and Shimei, according to their clans {mishpechotam: ancestral families}.
18 The sons {bnei: genealogical heading} of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. The years of the life {chayyei: measured span} of Kohath were 133 years.
19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families {mishpacha: extended kin groups} of Levi {ha-levi: tribal ancestor} according to their generations.
20 And Amram took Jochebed, his father’s sister {dodato: paternal aunt}, as a wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years {shanah: measured periods} of the life of Amram were one hundred thirty-seven.
21 The sons {bene: genealogical subgroup} of Izhar were Korah {korach: subgroup leader}, Nepheg, and Zikri.
22 And the sons of Uzziel {Uzziel: God Is Strength} were Mishael {Mishael: Who God Is}, Eltsaphan, and Sithri.
23 And Aaron {Aharon: first high priest} took Elisheba {Elisheva: divine oath bearer}, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as his wife, and she bore to him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 The sons of Korach {korach: Ancestral Patriarch} were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These were the clans {mishpechot: Extended Family Groups} of the Korahites.
25 And Eleazar {El'azar: God Has Helped}, son of Aaron, took as his wife one of the daughters of Putiel; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers {avot: ancestral lineages} of the Levites according to their families.
26 He—Aaron and Moses—are the ones to whom the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Commander} said, “Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt by their divisions {tsivotam: organized groups}.”
27 They are the ones who speak {medabberim: appointed spokesmen} to Pharaoh king of Egypt concerning bringing out {lehotsi: causative directive} the sons of Israel from Egypt: it is Moses and Aaron.
28 And it came to pass on the day that the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Commander} spoke {diber: declared by authority} to Moses in the land of Egypt.
29 And the LORD {YHWH, Divine Commander} spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the LORD; speak {daber: present command} to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, everything that I am saying to you.”
30 And Moses said before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Commissioner}, “Behold, I have uncircumcised lips {aral sefatayim: lacking eloquence}, and how then will Pharaoh listen to me?”
