1 And a reed {kalamos: measuring rod} like a rod was given to me, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God {Theos, Lord of the Sanctuary} and the altar, and those who worship in it.”
2 And the courtyard that is outside the temple, cast it outside and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations {ethnesin: non-Jewish peoples}, and they will trample {patesousin: desecrate violently} the holy city for forty-two months.
3 And I {Theos, Sovereign Giver} will grant to My two witnesses {martysin: prophetic testifiers}, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, having been clothed in sackcloth.
4 These, then, are the two olive trees and the two lampstands, stationed before the Lord {Kyrios, Supreme Owner} of the earth {ge: physical world}.
5 And if anyone wills to harm them, fire {pyr: consuming judgment} goes out from their mouths and devours {katesthiei: completely consumes} their enemies; and if anyone would wish to harm them, he must be killed in this way.
6 These are granted the authority {exousia: delegated right} to seal up the sky, preventing any rain from falling throughout the days of their prophecy {propheteia: inspired message}; and they hold the authority to turn the waters into blood and inflict every plague on the earth whenever they choose.
7 And when they finish their testimony, the beast {therion: terrifying oppressor} that rises from the abyss {abyssos: chaotic depth} will wage war against them, and will overcome them, and will kill them.
8 And their corpse {ptōma: exposed remains} will remain on the street of the great city, which is called spiritually Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord {Kyrios, Crucified Redeemer} was crucified.
9 And for three and a half days, some from the peoples {laon: diverse communities} and tribes and tongues and nations observe their dead body and do not permit their dead bodies to be placed in a tomb {mnema: burial chamber}.
10 And those who dwell upon the earth will exult over them and celebrate, and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented {basanizo: inflicted grievous suffering} those who dwell upon the earth {ge: God-opposing world}.
11 And after the three days and a half, a spirit of life from God {Theos, Giver of Life} entered into them, and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon those watching {theorountas: attentive witnesses} them.
12 And they heard a great voice {phone: heavenly summons} from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended into heaven in the cloud {nephele: holy presence sign}, and their enemies watched them.
13 And in that hour a great earthquake occurred, and a tenth of the city collapsed, and seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the remainder were seized with terror and gave glory to the God {Theos, Sovereign Judge} of heaven {ouranos: celestial realm}.
14 The second woe {ouai: severe judgment} has passed; behold, the third woe is coming quickly {tachu: swift, sudden}.
15 And the seventh angel sounded, and great voices filled heaven, declaring, “The royal rule of the world has become that of our Lord {Kyrios, Sovereign Judge} and of His Christ {Christos, Installed King}, and He will reign for the ages of the ages.”
16 And the twenty-four elders, who sit before God {Theos, Enthroned Sovereign} on their thrones, fell down upon their faces and worshiped {proskynesan: bowing in reverence} God.
17 Saying, “We give thanks to You, Lord God Almighty {Kyrios Theos Pantokrator, Supreme Ruler}, who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power {dynamis: inherent might} and have reigned.”
18 And the nations were enflamed with wrath, and Your {Theos, Righteous Judge} wrath has come, and the time has arrived for the dead to be judged, to bestow reward on Your servants, the prophets {prophetais: God-sent messengers}, the saints, and those who fear Your name, both small and great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God {Theos, Sovereign Covenant Lord} in heaven was opened, and the ark {kibotos: covenant chest} of His covenant was seen within His temple; and there were lightnings and voices and thunders and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.
