Corinthians 12TAB

Now concerning spiritual things {pneumatikon: Spirit-related concerns}, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant {agnoein: lack understanding}.

You know that when you were Gentiles, you were being led away toward the mute idols {eidola: handmade images}, just as you were being led {egesthe: habitually guided}.

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking in the Spirit of God {pneumati theou, Revealing Spirit} says “Jesus {Iesous, True Messiah} is accursed,” and no one is able to say “Jesus is Lord {Kyrios, Confessed Sovereign}” except in the Holy Spirit {pneumati hagiō, Sanctifying Power}.

Now there are distinctions {diaireseis: varied distributions} of gifts, but the same Spirit {pneuma, Unifying Giver}.

And there are distinctions of ministries {diakoniōn: diverse forms of service}, but the same Lord {Kyrios, Unifying Master}.

And there are divisions of workings {energematon: Spirit-empowered operations}, but it is the same God {Theos, Sovereign Worker} who is working all things in all.

But to each one the manifestation of the Spirit {Pneuma, Gift-Giving Presence} is given for the benefit {sympheron: shared advantage}.

For indeed, to one is given through the Spirit {pneuma, Holy Gift-Giver} a word of wisdom {sophia: Spirit-given discernment}, but to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit.

To another, faith {pistis: Spirit-given trust} by the same Spirit {pneuma, Giver Of Faith}; to another, gifts of healings by the one Spirit.

To another, workings of powers {energemata dynameon: repeated acts of divine power}; to another, prophecy; to another, discernings of spirits; to a different one, kinds of tongues {gene glosson: diverse Spirit-given speech}; to another, interpretation of tongues.

But all these things are being worked by the one and the same Spirit {pneuma, Sovereign Distributor}, distributing to each one individually {idia: in a distinct manner}, just as He wills.

For just as the body is one and has many members {mele: individual parts}, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ {Christos, Unified Covenant Head}.

For indeed in one Spirit {Pneuma, Unifying Presence} we all were baptized {ebaptisthēmen: immersively joined} into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we all were made to drink one Spirit.

For indeed the body is not one member {melos: distinct bodily part} but many {polla: numerous in kind}.

If the foot {pous: seemingly lowly member} were to say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body {soma: united fellowship},” it is not, for this reason, any less a part of the body.

And if the ear {ous: seemingly weaker part} should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” it is not for this reason any less a part of the body {soma: unified whole}.

If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing {akoe: sound perception} be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell {osphresis: odor sensing} be?

But now God {Theos, Sovereign Arranger} has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He willed {ethelesen: determined by purpose}.

But if all the parts were one member {melos: individual limb}, where would the body {soma: unified whole} be?

Now, there are indeed many members {mele: distinct parts}, but one body {soma: unified whole}.

But the eye {ophthalmos: seeing member} cannot say to the hand {cheir: serving part}, “I have no need of you,” nor again can the head say to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

But much more, those members {mele: individual parts} of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary {anankaia: absolutely needed}.

And those parts of the body which we consider to be less honorable {atimotera: regarded as inferior}, to these we bestow greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have greater propriety {euskhēmosynē: fitting decorum}.

But our presentable parts do not have need; rather, God {Theos, Wise Designer of Members} has blended the body together, giving greater honor to the part that was lacking {husterounti: in a disadvantaged position}.

So that there might not be division in the body {soma: unified whole}, but that the members {mele: distinct parts} would have the same care for one another.

And whether one member {melos: individual part} suffers, all the members suffer together; or if one member is honored {doxazo: given esteem}, all the members rejoice together.

Now you are the body of Christ {Christos, Corporate Head} and individually members {mele: distinct parts} of it.

And God {Theos, Sovereign Arranger} has set certain ones in the assembly {ekklēsia: called-out gathering}: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues.

Are all apostles {apostoloi: commissioned messengers}? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles {dynameis: divine power bearers}?

Do all have gifts {charismata: gracious endowments} of healings? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret {diermeneuo: clarify meaning}?

But earnestly desire the greater gifts {charismata: Spirit-given abilities}, and yet I show you a far more excellent way {hyperbolen: extraordinary degree}.
