1 And David {David: Anointed King} again gathered all the chosen young men {bachur: Select Warriors} of Israel, thirty thousand.
2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God {Elohim, Divine Presence}, which is called by the name of the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Supreme Commander} who dwells between the cherubim on it.
3 And they set the ark of God {Elohim, Divine Presence} on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab on the hill, with Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, guiding the new cart {agalah: wheeled vehicle}.
4 And they carried it from the house of Abinadab, which is on the hill, with the ark {aron: sacred chest} of God {Elohim: Sovereign Ruler}; and Ahio was walking before the ark.
5 And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the LORD {YHWH, Worship Receiver} with cypress wood {veroshim: evergreen wood} instruments, harps, lyres, drums, sistrums, and cymbals.
6 And they came up to the threshing floor of Nakon, and Uzzah reached out toward the ark of God {haElohim, Divine Sovereign} and took hold of it because the oxen {bakar: large draft animals} stumbled.
7 And the anger of the LORD {YHWH, Righteous Judge} burned against Uzzah, and God {Elohim, Divine Enforcer} struck him there for the error {hashal: irreverent act}; and he died there beside the ark of God.
8 And David was angry because the LORD {YHWH, Holy Judge} burst forth {paratz: sudden breaking forth} in a breach against Uzzah, and he called that place Perez Uzzah to this day.
9 And David was afraid of the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Ruler} on that day, and he said, “How can the ark {aron: sacred chest} of the LORD come to me?”
10 But David was not willing to bring the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Presence Bearer} to himself into the city of David; instead, David diverted it to the house {beit: household dwelling} of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
11 And the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Guardian} stayed in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household {beito: entire family circle}.
12 And it was told to King David, saying, “The LORD {YHWH, Blessing Source} has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God {Elohim, Divine Presence}.” Then David went and brought up the ark of God to the city of David with joy.
13 And it happened that when those carrying the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Presence} had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull {shor: mature ox} and a fattened calf.
14 And David was dancing with all his strength before the LORD {YHWH, Worship Recipient}, and David was girded with a linen ephod {efod: Priestly Vestment}.
15 And David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant King} with shouting {teruah: jubilant blast} and with the sound of the horn.
16 And it came to pass as the ark of the LORD {YHWH, Holy Presence} was entering the city of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, looked out through the window {chal-lon: vantage point} and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.
17 And they brought the Ark of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Presence} and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings {olot: sacrifices completely consumed by fire} and peace offerings before the LORD.
18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering {olah: ascending sacrifice} and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Divine Commander}.
19 And he distributed to all the people, to the entire multitude {hamon: assembly} of Israel, from man to woman, to each person {ish: individual recipient}: one loaf of bread, one portion of meat, and one cake {ashishah: raisin cake}. Then all the people went, each man to his house.
20 Then David returned to bless his household, and Michal daughter of Saul went out to meet him and said, “How honored the king of Israel has become today, uncovering himself today in the sight of the female servants{amhot: lower-status maids} of his servants, like one of the empty fellows{harekim: worthless men} unveils himself!”
21 And David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Chooser} who chose me rather than your father and all his house to appoint me leader {nagid: ruling chief} over the people of the LORD, over Israel; and I will celebrate before the LORD.”
22 And I will become even more insignificant {neqalloti: made myself lowly} than this, and I will be humble in my own eyes. But with the maidservants {amahot: female servants} whom you spoke of, I will be honored.
23 And to Michal, the daughter of Saul, there was no child {yeled: physical offspring} for her until the day of her death {motah: end of life}.
