1 And it happened, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD {YHWH, Divine Shield} had given him rest {heniachlo: relief granted} from all around and from all his enemies.
2 And the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See, please, I am living in a house of cedars, but the ark of God {Elohim, Divine Presence} is dwelling in the midst of the curtain {yeriah: tent fabric}.”
3 And Nathan said to the king, “Do everything that is in your heart {levav: seat of intentions}, go, and do it, for the LORD {YHWH, Divine Supporter} is with you.”
4 And it came to pass that night {baleilah: during the night} that the word of the LORD {YHWH, Revelation Giver} came to Nathan, saying
5 Go and say to My servant, to David, “Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Speaker}: Is it you who will build Me a house {bayit: physical sanctuary} for My dwelling?”
6 For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up the sons of Israel {benei Yisrael: covenant people} out of Egypt until this day, but I have been moving about in a tent {ohel: temporary shelter} and in a tabernacle.
7 In all the places where I {YHWH, Divine Shepherd} have walked among all the sons of Israel, did I ever speak to any of the tribes of Israel that I commanded to shepherd {lir’ot: to guide and feed} my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”
8 And now, thus you shall say to My servant David: “Thus says the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tseva’ot, Commander of Armies}: I took you from the pasture {naveh: field for grazing}, from following the flock, to be leader over My people, over Israel.”
9 And I {YHWH, Faithful Companion} have been with you in all that you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I have made for you a great name {shem: lasting renown}, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.
10 And I {YHWH, Covenant Promiser} will set a place for My people, for Israel, and I will plant them there, and they will dwell in their own place, and they will not be troubled any more, and the sons of injustice {b’nei-‘avlah: lawless oppressors} will not continue to afflict them as at the first.
11 And from the day that I appointed judges over My people Israel, and I have given you rest from all your enemies, the LORD {YHWH, Promise Maker} will declare to you that He will build a house {bayit: enduring dynasty} for you.
12 When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, then I {YHWH, Covenant Upholder} will raise up your offspring after you, who will come out from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom {mamlakha: royal dominion}.
13 He will build a house for My name and I will establish the throne {kisse: sovereign seat} of his kingdom forever {olam: unending duration}.
14 I {YHWH, Covenant Father} will be a Father to him, and he will be a son to Me. When he commits iniquity {avon: moral wrongdoing}, I will correct him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of man.
15 But my steadfast love {chesed: loyal covenant devotion} will not depart from him, as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from your presence {paneh: immediate proximity}.
16 And your house and your kingdom {mamlekht’kha: royal dominion} will be established {ven’eman: divinely guaranteed} forever before you; your throne will be firmly established forever.
17 According to all these words and according to all this vision {chizzayon: prophetic revelation}, thus Nathan {natan: prophetic emissary} spoke to David.
18 Then King David came and sat before the LORD {YHWH, Covenant King}, and he said, “Who am I, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Majestic Ruler}, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?”
19 And this was still a small thing in Your eyes, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Majestic Ruler}. You also spoke concerning the house of Your servant for a distant time, and this is instruction {torat: guiding decree} for humanity, Lord GOD.
20 And what more can David say to You, for You know {yad’ata: perceive completely} Your servant, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Covenant King}.
21 For the sake of Your {YHWH, Promise Upholder} word and according to Your heart, You have done all this greatness to make it known to Your servant {ebed: devoted attendant}.
22 Therefore You have become great, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Supreme Sovereign}, for there is none like You, and there is no God except You in all that we have heard with our ears {ozneinu: attentive understanding}.
23 And who is like your people, like Israel, a single nation on the earth, whom God {Elohim, Redeemer} went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make a name for Himself, and to do for you great and awesome wonders {noraot: awe-inspiring acts} for your land, before your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from the nations and their gods.
24 And You have established Your people Israel for Yourself as a people forever, and You, LORD {YHWH, Covenant Keeper}, have become their God {Elohim: Sovereign Authority}.
25 And now, LORD God {YHWH Elohim, Covenant Keeper}, the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant {avdekha: humble attendant} and concerning his house, establish it forever, and do as You have spoken.
26 And may your name become great forever, so that it will be said, ‘The LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Supreme Commander} is God {Elohim, Sovereign King} over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you {nachon: firmly set}.
27 For You, O LORD of hosts {YHWH tsevaot: Commander of Hosts}, God of Israel {Elohei Yisrael: Protector of Israel}, have revealed the ear of Your servant, saying, “I will build a house for You.” Therefore, Your servant has found his heart to pray this prayer {tefillah: earnest petition} to You.
28 And now, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Faithful Promise Keeper}, You are God, and Your words will be truth {emet: unwavering faithfulness}, for You have spoken to Your servant this good thing.
29 And now, be pleased and bless {barekh: confer honor} the house of your servant that it may be forever before You; for You, Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Sovereign Promise-Maker} have spoken and from Your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.
