1 Every commandment that I am commanding you today you must carefully keep and do, so that you may live and multiply and enter and possess the land which the LORD {YHWH, Promise Fulfiller} swore {nishba: solemnly vowed} to your ancestors.
2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God {YHWH Elohecha, Covenant Guide} led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you {anah: bring low for discipline} and to test you, to know what was in your heart—whether you would keep His commandments or not.
3 And He {YHWH, Provident Teacher} humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna {man: miraculous provision}, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, so that He might cause you to know that man does not live on bread alone; rather, man lives on every word that goes out from the mouth of the LORD.
4 Your clothing {simlah: protective garment} did not wear out from upon you, nor did your foot swell {vatseka: inflamed condition} these forty years.
5 And you shall know with your heart that just as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Parental Instructor} disciplines you {meyasserekha: loving correction}.
6 And you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Commander} by walking in His ways {derekh: path of obedience} and by fearing Him.
7 For the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Land Giver} is bringing you into a good land—a land of brooks {nachal: flowing streams}, springs, and deep waters issuing from the valley and the hill country.
8 A land of wheat and barley, vine and fig tree {te'enah: staple fruit} and pomegranate; a land of olive oil and honey {devash: natural sweetness}.
9 A land where you will eat bread not in scarcity {miskenut: deprivation}, and you will not lack anything in it; a land whose stones {avaneha: mineral supply} are iron and from whose hills you will dig copper.
10 And when you have eaten and are satisfied, then you shall bless the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Faithful Provider} for the good land {erets: territory granted} that He has given to you.
11 Take care for yourself lest you forget the LORD your God {YHWH Elohecha, Covenant Guide} by not keeping His commandments {mitzvotav: binding directives} and His judgments and His statutes which I am commanding you today.
12 Lest you eat and are satisfied {sava’ta: fully filled}, build good houses, and settle {yashavta: establish residence} in them.
13 And your cattle {bakar: livestock herds} and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold increase for you, and all {kol: complete totality} that you have multiplies.
14 And your heart will be lifted up and you will forget the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Deliverer}—the one who brought you out {hamotzi’akha: deliverance act} from the land of Egypt and from the house of slavery.
15 He {Elohim, Divine Guide} led you through the great and fearsome wilderness {midbar: desolate region}, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and with thirst where there was no water; He brought you water out of the flinty rock.
16 The One who fed you {YHWH, Provider in Wilderness} with manna {man: bread from heaven} in the wilderness, which your fathers did not know, so that He might humble you {annot: lower for discipline} and so that He might test you, to do good to you {heitiv: bestow welfare} in your latter end.
17 And you will say in your heart, “My strength {koach: personal power} and the might {otsem: robust force} of my hand have produced this wealth for me.”
18 And you shall remember the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Giver}, for it is He who gives you strength {koach: empowering ability} to produce wealth in order that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your ancestors, as it is this day.
19 And it will be, if you ever forget the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Judge} and walk after other gods and serve them and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish {abad: certain destruction}.
20 As the nations which the LORD {YHWH, Just Discerner} is destroying before you, so you shall perish because you did not obey {tishme’un: heed attentively} the voice of the LORD your God.
