1 And I looked, and there in view was the Lamb {arnion: Exalted Redeemer} standing on Mount Zion; with Him were one hundred forty-four thousand whose foreheads bore His name and His Father’s {pater, Sovereign Origin} name.
2 And I heard a sound issuing from heaven, like surging waters {hydaton: surging masses} and like mighty thunder; and the sound I heard was like harpists plucking {kitharizonton: plucking music} their harps.
3 And they are singing as a new song {oden: sacred hymn} before the throne, and before the four living creatures, and before the elders; and no one was able to learn the song except the one hundred forty-four thousand {chiliades: great host} who had been redeemed from the earth.
4 These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever He may go. They have been redeemed from among humanity as firstfruits to God {Theos, Holy Sovereign} and to the Lamb {arnion, Sacrificial Leader}.
5 And in their mouth {stoma: spoken words} no falsehood was found; they are blameless {amomoi: without fault}.
6 And I saw another angel flying in midheaven {mesouranema: high expanse}, holding an eternal gospel {euangelion: saving announcement} to announce to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.
7 He announces in a loud voice, “Fear God {Theos, Sovereign Creator} and give Him glory {doxan: honor and radiance}, because the hour of His judgment has come; and worship the One who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters.”
8 And another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen—fallen is Babylon {Babylon: rebellious empire} the great, who has given all the nations to drink the wine of the wrath of her fornication {porneias: idolatrous immorality}.”
9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying in a loud voice {phone: public proclamation}, “If anyone worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark {charagma: engraved sign} on his forehead or on his hand,”
10 He also will drink from the wine of the wrath of God {Theos, Sovereign Judge}, poured at full strength in the cup of His anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur before the holy angels and before the Lamb {arnion, sacrificial Redeemer}.
11 And the smoke of their torment {basanismou: judicial suffering} rises for ages of ages, and they have no rest day or night—those who bow down to the beast and its image, and anyone who receives the mark {charagma: official allegiance sign} of its name.
12 Here stands the perseverance {hypomone: unwavering endurance} of the saints: those who uphold the commandments of God {Theos, Righteous Judge} and the faith {pistis: steadfast trust} of Jesus {Iesous, Redeeming Messiah}.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven proclaim, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord {Kyrios, Faithful Rest-Giver} from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit {pneuma, Heavenly Witness}, “they will rest from their labors, for their works follow them.”
14 And I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like a Son of Man {huios anthropou: Messianic figure}, with a golden crown on His {autou: Sovereign Judge} head and a sharp sickle in His hand.
15 And another angel {angelos: heavenly herald} came out from the temple, crying with a loud voice to the one seated on the cloud, “Send forth your sickle and reap, because the hour {hora: appointed judgment time} to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.”
16 And He {Christos, End-Time Harvester} who sat on the cloud swung His sickle {drepanon: sharp harvesting blade} over the earth, and the earth was reaped.
17 And another angel {angelos: heavenly messenger} came forth from the temple in heaven, and he held a sharp sickle {drepanon: curved harvesting blade}.
18 And another angel came out from the altar {thysiasteriou: sacrificial worship}, having authority {exousia: delegated power} over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Send out your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes have fully ripened.”
19 And the angel {angelos: heavenly herald} swung his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and he threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God {Theos, Righteous Judge}.
20 The winepress {lenos: crushing vat} was trodden down outside the city {polis: gathered community}, and blood issued from it up to the horses’ bridles, spanning one thousand six hundred stadia.
