Therefore become people who imitate God {Theos, Divine Model}, as beloved children {tekna: Cherished Offspring}.
And walk in love, just as also Christ {Christos, Self-Giving Savior} loved us and gave Himself up for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God {Theos, Pleased Accepter} for a fragrant aroma.
But sexual immorality {porneia: illicit sexual activity}, and every impurity, or covetousness, must not even be spoken of among you, as is fitting for saints {hagiois: holy ones devoted to purity}.
And obscenity, and foolish talk, or coarse jesting {eutrapelia: mocking humor}, which are not fitting, but rather thanksgiving {eucharistia: gratitude toward God}.
For you know this for certain, that every sexually immoral person or unclean person or greedy person—who is an idolater—has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ {Christos, Anointed King} and God {Theos, Supreme Judge}.
Let no one mislead you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God {Theos, Divine Judge} comes upon the sons of disobedience {apeitheia: willful refusal}.
Therefore {oun: logical result} do not become partners {symmetochoi: joint sharers} with them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord {Kyrios, New Identity Realm}. Walk as children {tekna: born ones} of light.
For the fruit {karpos: visible outcome} of the light {phos: moral clarity} is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.
Test {dokimazontes: carefully evaluating} what is well-pleasing to the Lord {Kyrios, Discerning Master}.
And do not participate {synkoinoneite: shared involvement} in the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also expose {elenchete: uncover wrongdoing}.
For the things being done by them in secret are shameful {aischron: morally disgraceful} even to speak {legein: verbally describe} of.
But all things that are being exposed {elegchomena: morally uncovered} are revealed by the light {phos: exposing truth}.
For everything that is made visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, you who sleep {katheudon: spiritually unaware}, and rise from the dead, and Christ {Christos, Anointed Life-Giver} will shine on you.”
Therefore, see to it that you walk carefully {akrivos: exact attention}, not as unwise {asophoi: lacking insight} but as wise.
Making the most of the time {kairos: appointed moment}, because the days are evil {poneros: morally corrupt}.
Because of this, do not become foolish {aphrones: lacking sound judgment}, but understand what the will of the Lord {kyrios: Sovereign Master} is.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery {asotia: reckless waste}, but be filled with the Spirit {pneuma, Indwelling Holy Presence}.
Speaking to one another with psalms {psalmois: sacred songs}, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord {Kyrios, Honored Lord}.
Giving thanks always {pantote: at every time} for all things in the name {onoma: revealed authority} of our Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Mediating Savior} to God {theos, Worthy of Thanks} and Father {pater, Intimate Caregiver}.
Submitting to one another in the fear {phobos: deep respect} of Christ {Christos, Supreme Lord}.
Wives {gynaikes: married women}, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord {Kyrios, Supreme Master}.
For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ {Christos, Covenant Head} is the head of the church, He Himself is the Savior of the body {soma: redeemed community}.
But as the church {ekklesia: called-out assembly} submits to Christ {Christos, Saving Head}, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ {Christos, Sacrificial Redeemer} also loved the church {ekklēsia: called-out assembly} and gave Himself up for her.
In order that He {Christos, Sanctifying Bridegroom} might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing {loutron: cleansing bath} of water by the word.
In order that He {Christos, Sanctifying Bridegroom} might present the church to Himself glorious, not having spot {spilon: moral stain} or wrinkle, or any such thing, but so that she might be holy and without blemish.
Thus husbands {andres: married men} ought to love their own wives as their own bodies {somata: physical selves}; the one who loves his own wife loves himself.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but rather nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ {Christos, Caring Example} does the church {ekklesia: called-out assembly}.
Because we are members {mele: joined ones} of His {Christos, Covenant Head} body.
For this reason {anti: because of this} a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh {sarx: bodily marital union}.
This mystery {mysterion: hidden divine plan} is great, but I am saying it with reference to Christ {Christos, Covenant Bridegroom} and to the church.
Nevertheless, each one of you must love {agapato: selfless care} his own wife as himself, and the wife must respect {phobetai: reverent regard} her husband.
