1 And I saw, and behold, on the expanse that was above the head of the cherubim{keruvim: angelic beings} there was something like a sapphire stone, like the likeness{demut: visual form} of a throne, seen above them.
2 And He {YHWH, Sovereign Commander} said to the man clothed in linen {badim: fine priestly linen}, “Go in among the whirling wheelwork {galgal: turning wheelwork}, under the cherub {keruv: mighty angelic guardian}, and fill your hands with coals of fire from among the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” And He went in before my eyes.
3 And the cherubim {keruvim: powerful heavenly beings} were standing at the right side of the house when the man {ha-ish: divine envoy} entered, and the cloud filled the inner court.
4 And the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Presence} was lifted up from above the cherub and stood on the threshold {miftan: entry boundary} of the house. The house was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the LORD’s glory.
5 And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the sound of God Almighty {El Shaddai, Supreme Power} when He speaks {bedabbero: in His utterance}.
6 And it happened when He {YHWH, Sovereign Commander} commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, “Take fire from between the whirling wheels {galgal: turning wheels}, from between the cherubim,” then the man went in and stood beside the wheel.
7 And the cherub stretched out his hand from among the cherubim {keruvim: angelic beings} to the fire that was between the cherubim, and he took it and put it into the hands of the one clothed in linen {baddim: ritual cloth}, and he went out.
8 And there appeared on the cherubim {keruvim: Celestial Guardians} the form of a man's hand {yad-adam: Symbol of Authority} under their wings.
9 And I saw, and behold, four wheels beside the cherubim {keruvim: heavenly guardians}, one wheel beside one cherub and another wheel beside another cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was like the look of a tarshish stone {tarshish: precious gemstone}.
10 And as for their appearance, the four of them had one likeness {demut: form resemblance}, as if {ka-asher: just as} a wheel was within a wheel.
11 When they moved, they went toward their four quadrants {riveihem: directional quarters} and did not turn as they went. Wherever the head {harosh: leading part} turned, they followed after it and did not turn as they went.
12 And all their flesh, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels were completely filled {meleʾim: completely filled} with eyes on every side {saviv: on every side}, even the wheels of the four.
13 As for the wheels {ofanim: living spheres}, in my hearing they were called, “the whirling wheelwork” {galgal: the turning wheelwork}.
14 And each {echad: distributive allotment} had four faces: the face of the one was the face of a cherub {keruv: heavenly being}, and the face of the second was the face of a man, and the third was the face of a lion, and the fourth was the face of an eagle.
15 And the cherubim {keruvim: angelic beings} were lifted up; this was the living creature {chayah: animate being} that I saw by the river Chebar.
16 And when the cherubim {keruvim: angelic guardians} moved, the wheels went beside them; and when the cherubim lifted their wings {kanfeihem: winged extensions} to rise from above the earth, the wheels did not turn away—they too remained beside them.
17 At their standing, they stand; and at their rising up, they rise with them, because the spirit {ruach: breath, animating force} of the living creature {hachayyah: living being} is in them.
18 Then the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Departing Presence} departed from above the threshold of the house and stood upon the cherubim {keruvim: angelic beings}.
19 And the cherubim lifted up their wings and rose from the earth before my eyes as they went out with the wheels beside them; and they stood at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Dwelling Majesty} and the glory of the God of Israel {Elohei Yisrael, Covenant Protector} was above them.
20 It was the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel {Elohei Yisrael, Divine Guardian of the nation} by the river Chebar {binhar-Kevar: watercourse}, and I knew that they were cherubim.
21 Four faces for each, and four wings for each; and the likeness of the hands of a man {adam: human} was beneath their wings {kanfeihem: covering appendages}.
22 And the likeness {demut: visionary resemblance} of their faces matched the faces I saw by the River Chebar—their appearance and themselves. Each one went straight ahead {el-ever panav: toward the front of his face}.
