1 And God {Elohim, Source Of Blessing} blessed Noah and his sons, and He {hu: Same Divine Speaker} said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.”
2 The fear and dread of you will fall on every beast of the earth and every bird of the sky, on everything that moves along the ground {adamah: the ground/land surface}, and on all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hand {yad: power or control}.
3 Every moving creature {remes: land animal that moves} that is alive will be food for you; as the green plant, I have given {natati: granted as a gift} you everything.
4 But you must not eat the flesh with its life {nefesh: animating life}, that is, its blood {dam: carrier of life}.
5 And surely, for your blood {dam: physical lifeblood}, for your lives I {Elohim, Righteous Judge} will require an accounting; from the hand of every living creature I will require it; from the hand of the human I will require it; from the hand of a man—his brother—I will require the life of the human.
6 Whoever sheds the blood {dam: violent taking of life} of a human, by a human his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God {Elohim, Holy Lawgiver} He made the human.
7 And you, be fruitful and multiply, swarm {shirtsu: fill abundantly} in the earth, and multiply {urvu: expand your kind} in it.
8 Then God {Elohim, Covenant Speaker} said to Noah and to his sons {banav: male descendants} who were with him, saying,
9 And I {Elohim, Covenant Initiator}—behold, I am establishing My covenant {berit: binding promise} with you and with your descendants after you.
10 And with every living creature {nefesh: life essence} that is with you—the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you—from all that come out of the ark {tevah: rescue vessel}—to every animal of the earth.
11 And I {Elohim, Covenant Founder} establish My covenant {berit: binding promise} with you: never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again will a flood come to ruin the earth.
12 And God {Elohim, Covenant Establishing Lord} said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I {ani: personally pledging} am giving between Me and you and every living soul that is with you, for perpetual generations:”
13 My bow {kashti: covenant sky-arc} I have set in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of the covenant between Me {ani, Covenant Maker} and the earth.
14 And it will be, when I {ani, Covenant Sign Giver} bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow {qeshet: visible covenant token} will be seen in the cloud.
15 And I {Elohim, Faithful Rememberer} will remember My covenant {berit: binding promise} which is between Me and you and between every living soul among all flesh, and the waters will never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow will be in the cloud, and I {Elohim, Faithful Covenant Watcher} will see it so as to remember the everlasting covenant {berit: binding commitment} between God and every living creature in all flesh that is upon the earth.
17 And God {Elohim, Covenant Maker} said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between Me {beyni: personal divine presence} and all flesh that is upon the earth.”
18 And the sons of Noah {Noach: post-flood patriarch} who went out from the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and Ham, he was the father {avi: direct ancestor} of Canaan.
19 These three were the sons of Noah {Noach: preserved survivor}, and from these the whole earth {arets: worldwide domain} was dispersed.
20 And Noah {Noach: post-flood farmer} began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard {kerem: cultivated grape field}.
21 And he drank from the wine {yayin: intoxicating drink}, and he became drunk, and he uncovered himself inside his tent {ohel: private shelter}.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan {avi kenaan: ancestral line}, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside {bachuts: public place}.
23 Then Shem and Japheth took the garment {simlah: outer cloak} and draped it across their shoulders; they backed away and covered their father’s nakedness {ervah: state of exposure}. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.
24 And Noah {Noach: shamed family head} awoke from his wine {miyeyno: intoxicating drink}, and he realized what his youngest son had done to him.
25 And he said, “Cursed is Canaan! A servant {eved: lowest rank} of servants he will be to his brothers {echav: close kin}.”
26 And he said, “Blessed be the LORD {YHWH, Blessing Bestower over Shem}, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be a servant {eved: one in lasting subjection} to them.”
27 May God {Elohim, Territory Expander} enlarge Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be a servant {eved: subordinate laborer} to them.
28 And Noah {Noach: post-flood patriarch} lived after the flood {mabbul: global judgment} three hundred fifty years.
29 And all the days {yemei: total lifetime span} of Noah {Noach: bearer of rest} were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.
