Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Risen Lord} by the command of God {Theos, Saving Commander} our Savior, and of Christ Jesus our hope.
To Timothy, my genuine child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father {Theos Pater, Gracious Source} and Christ Jesus our Lord {Christos Iesous Kyrios, Supreme Lord}.
Just as I urged you {parekalesa: earnestly exhorted} to remain in Ephesus when I was going into Macedonia, so that you may instruct certain ones not to teach a different doctrine {heterodidaskalein: foreign teaching}.
Do not pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which bring about investigations rather than the stewardship {oikonomia: entrusted management} of God {Theos, Planner of Salvation} that is in faith.
But the goal of the command is love that comes from a pure heart {kardias: inner self}, a good conscience, and sincere faith {pisteos: devoted trust}.
From which some, having missed {astochesantes: missed the mark}, have turned aside into empty talk {mataiologia: fruitless speech}.
Wishing to be teachers of the law {nomodidaskaloi: Torah instructors}, not understanding either what things they are saying or about which things they confidently assert {diabebaiountai: emphatically claim}.
But we know that the law {nomos: God-given standard} is good, if anyone uses it lawfully {nomimos: in line with law}.
Knowing this, that the law is not laid down for a righteous person {dikaios: morally upright}, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane {bebelos: scorning holiness}, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers.
For the sexually immoral {pornoi: sexual offenders}, for men who engage in same-sex relations, for slave traders, for liars, for perjurers, and, if there is anything else that stands opposed to sound teaching {didaskalia: authoritative instruction}.
In accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God {Theos, Giver of Gospel}, which was entrusted to me {episteuthen: given as a sacred trust}.
I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord {Christos Iesous Kyrios, Empowering Lord}, who has strengthened me, because He regarded me as faithful {pistos: trustworthy for service}, having appointed me to service.
I, although formerly a blasphemer {blasphemon: God-insulting offender} and a persecutor and an insolent person, was shown mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief {apistia: absence of trust}.
But the grace of our Lord {Kyrios, Overflowing Giver} overflowed exceedingly with faith and love that are in Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Source of Faith and Love}.
The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Saving Messiah} came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am the foremost {protos: Chief Sinner}.
But because of this I was shown mercy, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Displaying Mercy} might display the fullness of patience as a pattern {hupotuposin: guiding example} for those who are about to believe in Him for eternal life.
Now to the King of the ages {aionon: all eras}, incorruptible and invisible, the only God {Theos, Eternal King}, be honor and glory through all the ages of ages. Amen.
This command {parangelia: authoritative charge} I entrust to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies {propheteia: prior promises} that went before about you, so that by them you may wage the good warfare.
Holding faith and a good conscience {syneidesin: inner moral awareness}, which some have rejected; concerning the faith, they have suffered shipwreck {enauagesan: spiritual catastrophe}.
Among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan {Satana: hostile accuser} so that they might be disciplined {paideuthosi: corrective training} not to blaspheme.
