1 Then Elyashiv {elyashiv: God Restores}, the high priest, and his fellow priests arose and rebuilt the Sheep Gate {shaar hatsoan: flock entrance}. They consecrated it and set up its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel.
2 And beside him the men of Jericho built, and beside them Zakkur {zakkur: individual contributor} son of Imri {ben-imri: paternal lineage} built.
3 And the Fish Gate was built by the sons of Hassenaah; they laid the beams {keruhu: fastened wooden supports} and set up the doors, the bolt {manʿul: sliding lock}, and the bars.
4 Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, made repairs {hecheziq: causative strengthening} beside them {yadam: cooperative effort}. Meshullam son of Berekiah, son of Meshezabeel, also made repairs. And Zadok son of Baana made repairs.
5 Adjacent to them, the Tekoites made repairs {hecheziku: secured walls}, but their nobles did not put their necks {tsavaram: symbol of submission} to the work of their lords.
6 And the Old Gate was repaired {hecheziku: structurally reinforced} by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah; they laid its beams and set up its doors, its locks {manʿulav: locking mechanism}, and its bars.
7 Beside them, Malatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite made repairs, along with the men of Gibeon and Mizpah, up to the seat of the governor {pehat: provincial prefect} of the region {ever ha-nahar: beyond the River}.
8 Beside him, Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths {tsorefim: metalworkers}, made repairs {hechezik: causative strengthening}. And beside him, Hananiah son of the perfumers made repairs. They fortified Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.
9 And next to them, Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem {Yerushalayim: city of peace}, made repairs {hechezik: strengthened or restored}.
10 And beside them Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs {hecheziq: technical restoration} opposite his house {beit: dwelling structure}. And beside him Hattush son of Hashabneiah made repairs.
11 Another section {midde’ah shenît: designated wall segment} was repaired by Malkijah son of Harim and Chashub son of Pahath-Moab, and also the Tower of the Ovens {migdal hattannûrîm: fortified baking facility}.
12 And next to him, Shallum the son of Hallohesh, the official of half of the district of Jerusalem, made repairs {hechezik: actively restored}—he and his daughters {benot: unmarried daughters}.
13 The Valley Gate {shaʿar ha-gay: principal western gate} was repaired by Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and a thousand cubits {amah: approx. 45 cm} of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.
14 And the Dung Gate was repaired {hechezik: made strong} by Malkijah son of Rekab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem; he built it and set up its doors, its bolts {man’ulav: securing bars}, and its bars.
15 And Shallun son of Kol-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah {mits-pah: lookout point}, repaired the Fountain Gate; he rebuilt it, covered it, and set up its doors, bolts, and bars. He also built the wall of the Pool of Siloam by the King’s Garden {gan: royal enclosure}, as far as the steps that descend from the City of David.
16 After him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, official {sar: administrative official} of half the district of Beth Zur, made repairs up to the point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the constructed pool and as far as the House of the Mighty {gibborim: heroic warriors}.
17 After him, the Levites {haleviyim: temple ministers} under the leadership of Rehum son of Bani made repairs. Beside him, Hashabiah, the official {sar: appointed leader} of half the district of Keilah made repairs for his section.
18 After him, their brothers under Bavai son of Henadad, the ruler {sar: chief officer} of half the district of Keilah, made repairs {hecheziku: strengthened}.
19 And Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section beside it, from the point opposite {mineged: facing location} the ascent to the armory up to the corner {miktzoa: wall turning}.
20 After him Baruch son of Zabbai earnestly {chemeh: with zeal} repaired the section {ketaʽ: designated segment} from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
21 After him Meremoth {meremot: repairer} son of Uriah son of Hakkoz repaired from the entrance {petach: doorway} of the house to the end of the house of Eliashib.
22 And after him, the priests {kohanim: Levitical officiants}, the men of the plain {kikar: surrounding plain}, made repairs.
23 After them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs {hecheziku: structural restoration} in front of their house {beit: dwelling place}; after them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house.
24 After him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired a second section {midah: wall segment}, from the house of Azariah to the angle and to the corner {pinnah: outermost point of structure}.
25 Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the angle {miktzoa: projecting corner} and the tower extending from the king’s upper palace {ha-elyon: highest section} by the prison courtyard. After him, Pedayah son of Parosh repaired.
26 And the temple servants {netinim: temple assistants} were dwelling on the Ophel, up to the place opposite the Water Gate {sha'ar hamayim: water access gate} toward the east, and the projecting tower.
27 After him, the men of Tekoa {Tekoa: a settlement south of Jerusalem} made repairs from opposite the great projecting tower to the wall of the Ophel {Ophel: fortified hill area in Jerusalem}.
28 Above the Horse Gate, the priests {kohanim: sacred ministers} made repairs, each man in front of his house {bet: household dwelling}.
29 After him, Tsadoq son of Immer made repairs {hechezik: made firm} opposite his house. And after him, Shemaiah son of Sheḳanyah, the keeper {shomer: watchful guard} of the East Gate, made repairs.
30 After him, Hananiah son of Shelemyah and Hanun, the sixth {ha-shishi: ordinal position} son of Tsalaph, repaired another section. After him, Meshullam son of Berekhyah made repairs opposite {neged: directly facing} his chamber.
31 After him, Malkijah {malkijah: Yahweh is King}, one of the goldsmiths {hatzoref: artisan metalworker}, made repairs as far as the house of the temple-servants and the merchants, opposite the Gate of Inspection, and as far as the upper chamber of the corner.
32 And between the upper room at the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths {tzorfim: metalworkers} and the merchants {rochlim: traders in wares} made repairs.
