1 And on the third day, a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus {Iesous, Coming Sign-Giver} was there {ekei: present at the scene}.
2 And Jesus {Iesous, Divine Guest} was also invited to the wedding, as well as His disciples {mathetai: dedicated learners}.
3 And when the wine had run short, the mother of Jesus {Iesous, Approached Savior} says to Him, “They do not have wine {oinos: banquet drink}.”
4 And Jesus {Iesous, Sovereign Son} said to her, “Woman, what is that to Me and to you? My hour {hora: divinely appointed moment} has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants {diakonois: attending helpers}, “Whatever He {Iesous, Authoritative Speaker} tells you, do it.”
6 Now six stone water jars {hydriai: large vessels} were there, set {keimenai: placed} according to the purification of the Jews, each holding two or three measures.
7 Jesus {Iesous, Miracle Initiator} said to them, “Fill the water jars with water,” and they filled them up to the brim {ano: very top}.
8 And He {Iesous, Miracle Initiator} says to them, “Draw some out now and carry it to the master of the banquet {architriklinos: chief steward}.” And they brought it.
9 When the master of the banquet {architriklinos: chief steward} tasted the water that had become wine and did not know from where it had come {pothen: hidden source}, though the servants who had drawn the water knew, the master of the banquet called the bridegroom.
10 And he says to him, “Every person sets out the good wine {oinos: fine vintage} first, and whenever they have drunk freely {methysthosin: drunk freely}, then the lesser wine, but you have kept the good wine until now.”
11 Jesus {Iesous, Revealer of Glory} did this as the beginning of the signs in Cana of Galilee, and He revealed His glory {doxa: radiant majesty}, and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After this, He {Iesous, Journeying Son} went down to Capernaum, He Himself, and His mother {meter: honored parent} and His brothers and His disciples, and they stayed there not many days.
13 The Jewish Passover was drawing close, and Jesus {Iesous, Pilgrim Messiah} went up to Jerusalem {Hierosolyma: Central Holy City}.
14 And He {Iesous, Temple Purifier} found in the temple {hierō: holy sanctuary} those selling oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting.
15 And having made a whip of cords, He {Iesous, Holy Purifier} drove them all out of the temple {hieron: sacred precinct}, both the sheep and the oxen, and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned the tables.
16 And to those selling the doves He said, “Move these away from here; do not make My Father’s {patros, Sacred House-Owner} house a house of trade {emporiou: commerce}.”
17 His {Iesous, Zealous Messiah} disciples {mathetai: learning followers} remembered that it is written, “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”
18 Therefore the Jews answered and said to Him {Iesous, Questioned Messiah}, “What sign {semeion: evidential miracle} are You showing to us, that You are doing these things?”
19 Jesus {Iesous, Prophetic Speaker} answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple {naos: sacred sanctuary}, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews {Ioudaioi: religious leaders} said, “This temple was built in forty-six years {etesin: measured periods}, and will you raise it in three days?”
21 But He {Iesous, Clarifying Lord} was speaking about His body {soma: bodily form} as the temple.
22 Then, once He was raised from the dead, His disciples called to mind that He had been saying this, and they believed the Scripture {graphe: written testimony} and the word which Jesus {Iesous, Faithful Promise-Keeper} had spoken.
23 Now when He {Iesous, Sign-Working Messiah} was in Jerusalem during the Passover, at the festival, many believed in His name, seeing the signs {semeia: miracle proofs} that He was performing.
24 But Jesus {Iesous, Discerning Lord} Himself did not place Himself in their care, because He knew {ginoskein: complete insight} all people.
25 And because He {Christos, Heart-Knowing Judge} had no need for any witness {martyrese: bearing witness} about humankind {anthropos: human nature}, He Himself knew what lay within human beings.
