And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Instructor} spoke to Moses, saying {lemor: speech introduction},
Command the sons of Israel, and let them send away from the camp every leper {tsarua: person with a skin affliction} and everyone with a discharge {zav: bodily flow}, and everyone unclean because of a dead body.
From male to female you shall send them away outside {mīḥûṣ: complete separation} the camp so that they do not defile their camp, which I {YHWH, Dwelling Presence} dwell among them.
And the sons of Israel did so; they sent them outside the camp, just as the LORD {YHWH, Divine Commander} had spoken to Moses {Mosheh: mediator}.
And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Communicator} spoke to Moses, saying {lemor: introductory marker},
Speak to the sons of Israel: If a man or a woman commits any of the sins of humanity by trespass {maal: betraying act} against the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Judge}, then that soul is guilty.
And they shall confess their sin which they have committed, and he shall make restitution for his guilt in its principal {berosho: principal amount}, and he shall add its fifth to it, and he shall give it to the person against whom he was guilty {asham: owed restitution}.
And if the one wronged has no redeemer {go’el: kinsman-restorer} to whom restitution for the wrong may be restored, the restitution to be restored shall belong to the LORD {YHWH, Just Judge} for the priest, apart from the ram of atonement which atones for him.
And every sacred contribution {terumah: special offering} of the holy things {kadshei: ritual objects} of the sons of Israel that they bring to the priest shall belong to him.
Each man’s holy offerings {qodashav: things set apart for God} will be his; whatever any man gives to the priest {kohen: ordained servant}, it shall be the priest’s.
And the LORD {YHWH, Lawgiver} spoke to Moses, saying {lemor: quotation marker},
Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, “Any man, if his wife goes astray {tishteh: departs in betrayal} and commits a trespass {maal: breach of fidelity} against him,”
And a man lies with her in a lying-down-of-seed {shikhvat-zera‘: emission of seed}, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is hidden, and she is defiled {nitma‘ah: ritual impurity}; and there is no witness against her, and she was not seized.
And if a ruach {ruach: internal drive} of jealousy passes over him, and he becomes jealous of his wife {ishto: marital partner}, and she has become defiled, or if a ruach of jealousy passes over him, and he is jealous of his wife and she has not become defiled—
And the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring her offering—a tenth part {asirit: tenth fraction} of an ephah of barley flour. He must not pour oil on it or put frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousies, a grain offering of remembrance {zikaron: memorial}, bringing to remembrance iniquity.
Then the priest {kohen: ritual mediator} shall bring her forward and have her stand before the LORD {YHWH, Supreme Judge}.
And the priest {kohen: Ritual Officiant} shall take holy water in an earthenware vessel, and from the dust {afar: Tabernacle Floor Soil} that is on the floor of the Tabernacle, the priest shall put it into the water.
Then the priest shall set the woman before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Judge}, and he shall loosen the hair of the woman’s head {rosh: symbol of status}, and place upon her hands the grain offering of remembrance and the grain offering of jealousy. And in the hand of the priest shall be the bitter water that brings a curse.
Then the priest {kohen: ordained mediator} shall make her take an oath and shall say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray with impurity under your husband {ish: covenant partner}, be cleared from these bitter waters that cause the curse.”
But if you have gone astray {satit: committed unfaithfulness} under your husband, and if you have become unclean {nitme'et: ritually defiled}, and a man has lain with you apart from your husband.
And the priest shall cause the woman to swear an oath of the curse {alah: judicial sentence}, and the priest shall say to the woman, “May the LORD {YHWH, Righteous Judge} make you a curse and an oath among your people as the LORD makes your thigh fall and your abdomen swell.”
And these waters {hame’arerim: bringers of curse} will enter your belly to cause the belly to swell {beme’ayikh: inner parts}. Then the woman shall say, “Amen, amen.”
And the priest shall write these curses {ha-alot: solemn imprecations} on a scroll, and he shall erase them into the water of bitterness {ha-mmarim: ritual ordeal}.
And he shall cause the woman to drink the water of bitterness {hamarim: ritual bitterness}, the water that brings a curse {hamearrim: participial curse}, and this water will enter her and bring bitter pain.
Then the priest {kohen: appointed minister} shall take from the hand of the woman the grain offering of jealousy and shall wave the grain offering before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Judge}, and shall bring it near to the altar.
Then the priest {kohen: one who ministers} shall take a handful from the grain offering, its memorial portion {azkaratah: remembrance portion}, and burn it on the altar; afterward, he shall make the woman drink the water.
And he shall make her drink the water, and it will be, if she has become unclean and acted unfaithfully {maal: breach of trust} against her husband, then the water that brings the curse {hameororim: pronounced judgment} will enter her for bitterness; her abdomen will swell, her thigh will fall, and the woman shall become a curse in the midst of her people.
But if the woman has not been defiled and she is clean, then she will be acquitted {nik'tah: found guiltless} and will conceive {venizre'ah: bring forth}.
This is the law of jealousy {torat ha-kena’ot: legal statute} when a woman goes astray under her husband and she is defiled {ve-nitma’ah: declared ritually impure}.
Or if a man upon whom a spirit of jealousy passes and who becomes jealous of his wife causes the woman to stand before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Witness}, and the priest shall do for her all this law {torah: authoritative instruction}.
And the man will be acquitted {nikkah: declared innocent} from iniquity, but that woman will bear {tissa: carry the consequence} her iniquity.
