1 To the angel {angelos: heavenly envoy} of the church in Ephesus write: This is what the One says who keeps the seven stars in His {Christos, Present Lord} right hand, the One walking among the seven golden lampstands.
2 I {Iesous, All-Seeing Judge} know your works, your labor, and your endurance {hupomonen: steadfast persistence}; I know that you cannot put up with evil people, and that you tested those who present themselves as apostles but are not, and you proved them false.
3 And you have endurance {hypomone: persevering patience}; you have carried on for the sake of my name {Christos, Faithful Overseer}, and you have not grown weary.
4 But I {Christos, Loving Corrector} have this against you: you have left behind your first love {agapen: devoted affection}.
5 Remember, therefore, from where you have fallen; repent, and do the first works; otherwise I {Iesous, Righteous Judge} am coming to you and will remove your lampstand {luchnia: local congregation symbol} from its place, unless you repent.
6 However, you have this: you hate the deeds {erga: corrupt deeds} of the Nicolaitans, which I {Iesous, Discerning Judge} also hate.
7 Whoever has an ear must hear what the Spirit {pneuma, Holy Spirit Voice} declares to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the privilege of eating from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God {Theos, Life Sustainer}.
8 And to the angel {angelos: heavenly messenger} of the church in Smyrna, write: This is what the First and the Last {ho protos kai ho eschatos, Risen Eternal Lord} says—the One who became dead and came to life again.
9 I {Iesous, All-Knowing Lord} know your affliction and your poverty (yet you are rich), and I know the blasphemy from those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan {Satanas: Hostile Accuser}.
10 Do not fear what you are soon about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I {Iesous, Faithful Reward Giver} will give you the crown {stephanos: unfading reward} of life.
11 The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit {pneuma, Divine Communicator} says to the churches. The one who overcomes will never be harmed by the second death {thanatos: final irreversible death}.
12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamum {Pergamō: pagan stronghold} write: “These things says the One {Christos: Piercing Judge} who has the sharp, two-edged sword.”
13 I {Iesous, All-Knowing Lord} know where you dwell—where the throne of Satan is. You hold fast My name and you did not deny My faith, even in the days of Antipas, My witness {martys: legal testifier}, who was killed among you where Satan dwells.
14 But I {Iesous, Exalted Judge} have a few things against you: you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to set a stumbling block {skandalon: spiritual trap} before the sons of Israel, so that they would eat idol sacrifices and commit sexual immorality.
15 In the same way, you also have there those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans {Nikolaiton: followers of Nicolaus} likewise {homoios: sharing this error}.
16 Therefore repent {metanoeo: decisive turning}. But if you do not, I {Christos, Faithful Judge} am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth.
17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit {pneuma, Holy Revealing Presence} says to the churches. To the one who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna {manna: heavenly provision}, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows except the one who receives it.
18 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These things says the Son of God {huios tou theou, Piercing Judge}, the One who has eyes {ophthalmous: all-seeing gaze} like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze.
19 I {Christos, All-Knowing Judge} know your works, and your love {agape: self-giving devotion}, and faith, and service, and your steadfast endurance, and that your last works are more than the first.
20 But I {Iesous, Exalted Judge} have against you that you allow the woman Jezebel {Iezabel: corrupting seducer}, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads astray My servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
21 And I {Iesous, Patient Judge} gave her time {chronos: gracious period given} so that she might repent, but she does not will to repent from her sexual immorality.
22 Behold, I {Iesous, Holy Judge} will cast her into a bed, and those committing adultery with her into great tribulation {thlípsin: intense affliction}, unless they repent from her deeds.
23 And I {Iesous, All-Knowing Judge} will kill her children with death, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches kidneys and hearts, and I will give to each one of you according to your works {erga: morally evaluated deeds}.
24 But to you I {Christos, Faithful Examiner} say—to the rest who are in Thyatira, to as many as do not have this teaching, who have not known the depths of Satan as they say—I do not place upon you another burden {baros: weighty requirement}.
25 But hold fast to what {ho: entrusted teaching} you have until I {Iesous, Coming Judge} come.
26 And the one who overcomes and keeps My works until the end, to him I {Iesous, Faithful Reward-Giver} will give authority over the nations {ethnon: non-Jewish peoples}.
27 And he will shepherd {poimanei: govern firmly} them with an iron rod, as the earthenware vessels {skeuē: fragile instruments} are shattered.
28 Just as I {Iesous, Faithful Receiver} have received from my Father {Pater, Sovereign Giver}, I will also give him the morning star {astera proinon: symbol of Christ}.
29 Let the one who has an ear hear what the Spirit {pneuma, Divine Speaker} says to the churches {ekklēsiai: called-out assemblies}.
