1 And you shall love the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Keeper} and you shall keep His charge {mishmarto: entrusted responsibility}, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments all the days.
2 And you shall know today that it is not your children who have known or seen the discipline of the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Instructor}, His greatness {gadlo: supreme majesty}, His strong hand, and His outstretched arm.
3 And the signs {ototav: miraculous displays} and the deeds {ma’asav: mighty works} which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to all his land.
4 And what He did to the army of Egypt, to its horses and to its chariots, how He caused the waters of the Sea of Suf {yam-suf: Red Sea event} to overflow upon their faces as they pursued after you, and the LORD {YHWH, Divine Deliverer} destroyed them until this day.
5 And what He {YHWH, Faithful Deliverer} did for you in the wilderness {midbar: arid steppe} until you came to this place.
6 And what He{YHWH, Divine Judge} did to Dathan and to Abiram, the sons of Eliab, son of Reuben—how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households and their tents, and living things{yekum: all that stood with them} at their feet in the midst of all Israel:
7 For it was your own eyes that saw all the great deeds {ma’aseh: significant acts} of the LORD {YHWH, Mighty Worker} that He did.
8 And you shall keep all the commandment that I {Moshe: covenant mediator} am commanding you today, so that {lemaan: covenant purpose} you may be strong and go in and possess the land that you are crossing over there.
9 And so that you may prolong your days upon the land which the LORD {YHWH, Oath Keeper} swore to your fathers to give to them and to their descendants—a land flowing with milk {chalav: abundant nourishment} and honey.
10 For the land which you are entering to possess {rishtah: legal acquisition} is not like the land of Egypt, from which you departed, where you sowed your seed and watered it with your foot as you would a garden {yarak: cultivated greens}.
11 And the land which you are crossing there to possess is a land of mountains {harim: rugged hills} and valleys, drinking water from the rain of the heavens {shamayim: sky realm}.
12 It is a land which the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Caretaker} continually seeks after; the eyes {einei: attentive regard} of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year and until the year's end.
13 And it will be that if you listen attentively to my commandments that I am commanding you today—to love the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Faithful Covenant Lord} and to serve Him with all your heart {levav: inner person} and with all your soul.
14 And I {YHWH, Life Sustainer} will give the rain for your land in its season—early rain {yoreh: autumn rainfall} and late rain—so you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
15 And I {YHWH, Faithful Sustainer} will provide grass {esev: green fodder} in your field for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.
16 Watch yourselves carefully {hishshamru: maintain vigilant guard}, lest your heart {levavkhem: seat of intention} be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and bow down to them.
17 And the anger {ap̄: fierce wrath} of the LORD {YHWH, Righteous Judge} will burn against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain, and the land will not give its produce, and you will quickly perish from the good land which the LORD is giving to you.
18 And you shall set these words of Mine {YHWH, Covenant Instructor} upon your heart {levav: inner will} and upon your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
19 And you shall teach them {otam: these commands} to your children {benekhem: next generation}, to speak of them when you sit in your house and when you go on the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.
20 And you shall write them upon the doorposts {mezuzot: entry pillars} of your house and upon the gates {shearim: points of entry}.
21 So that your days and the days of your children may be many on the land which the LORD {YHWH, Oath-Keeper} swore to your fathers, to give to them, as the days of the heavens {shamayim: celestial expanse} above the earth.
22 For if you truly keep {shamor: diligent observance} all this commandment that I am commanding you to do—loving the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem: Faithful Guide}, walking in all His ways, and clinging to Him.
23 And the LORD {YHWH, Overcoming Champion} will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and more powerful {atzumim: possessing superior strength} than you.
24 Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours: from the wilderness {midbar: open uncultivated land} and Lebanon, from the Euphrates River to the western sea—it shall be your border {gevul: territorial limit}.
25 No man will be able to stand before you; the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Defender} will set your terror {pachad: awe-inspiring dread} and your fear upon the face of all the land where you tread, just as He spoke to you.
26 See, I {Mosheh: Covenant Mediator} am setting before you today a blessing {berakhah: divine favor} and a curse.
27 The blessing, which you will receive if you obey the commands {mitsvot: mandated requirements} of the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheichem, Covenant Giver}, which I am commanding you today.
28 And the curse will come if you do not listen to the commandments of the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Lord} and turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today to go after other gods {elohim acherim: foreign powers} which you have not known.
29 And it shall be, when the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Giver} brings you into the land {ha’aretz: promised territory} which you are entering to possess, then you shall set the blessing upon Mount Gerizim and the curse upon Mount Ebal.
30 Are they not across the Jordan, west of the road, toward the sun’s going down {mevo: sunset direction}, in the land of the Canaanite who dwell in the Arabah {aravah: rift plain}, opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?
31 For you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess the land {aretz: territorial inheritance} which the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheichem, Covenant Land Giver} is giving to you, and you will take possession of it and dwell in it.
32 And you shall keep to do all the statutes {hukkim: engraved decrees} and the judgments that I {Moshe: covenant mediator} am giving before you today.
