1 After these things, Jesus {Iesous, Risen Teacher} made Himself known again to the disciples beside the Sea of Tiberias, and He made Himself known in this manner {houtos: anticipatory marker}.
2 Present together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymos {Didymos: The Twin}, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His {autou: of Jesus} disciples.
3 Simon Peter said to them, "I am going to fish." They said to him, "We are coming with you as well." Then they went out and boarded the boat {ploion: fishing vessel}, and during that night they caught nothing {ouden: not one thing}.
4 When morning {proias: first light} had already come, Jesus {Iesous, Risen Master} stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
5 Jesus {Iesous, Risen Teacher} therefore said to them, “Children {paidia: tender address}, do you not have any food?” They answered Him, “No.”
6 But He {Iesous, Commanding Lord} said to them, “Cast the net over on the right-hand side of the boat, and you will find.” So they cast it, and they were no longer able to haul it up because of the great multitude {plethous: overflowing catch} of fish.
7 Therefore the disciple whom Jesus {Iesous, Covenant Friend} loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord {Kyrios, Risen Master}.” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his outer garment around himself, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.
8 But the other disciples came in the little boat {ploiarion: small fishing craft}, for they were not far from the land, but about two hundred cubits away, dragging the net of fish {ichthuon: sea creatures}.
9 Once they were on land, they saw a charcoal fire {anthrakia: burning coals} set there, and a fish {opsarion: prepared portion} resting on it, and bread.
10 Jesus {Iesous, Risen Teacher} said to them, “Fetch some of the fish {opsarion: small fish} you have now caught.”
11 So Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to the land, full of large fish—one hundred fifty-three in all. Even with so many {tosouton: that many}, the net was not torn {eschisthe: split apart}.
12 Jesus {Iesous, Risen Teacher} said to them, “Come, eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples ventured to ask Him, “Who are You?” knowing He was the Lord {Kyrios, Recognized Master}.
13 Jesus {Iesous, Risen Meal Host} comes and takes the bread and gives it to them, and likewise the fish {opsarion: Prepared Fish}.
14 This was now the third time that Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} was revealed to the disciples, after He had been raised from the dead {nekros: lifeless ones}.
15 When, therefore, they had finished breakfast, Jesus {Iesous, Risen Restorer} says to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He says to Him, “Yes, Lord {Kyrios, All-Knowing Master}; You know that I love You.” He says to him, “Feed My lambs.”
16 He said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord {Kyrios, Restoring Master}, You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd {poimaine: guide and tend} My sheep.”
17 He spoke to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do You love Me?” Peter was grieved because He had spoken to him the third time, “Do You love Me?” He said to Him, “Lord {Kurie, Restoring Master}, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus {Iesous, Shepherding Messiah} said to him, “Feed My sheep.”
18 Truly, truly, I {Iesous, Recommissioning Shepherd} say to you, when you were younger, you were girding yourself and walking wherever you wished; but when you grow old {gērasēs: later-life stage}, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.
19 He said this, making clear by what sort of death he would bring glory to God {Theos, Glorified One}. And after saying this, He says to him, “Follow {akoloutheo: devoted discipleship} Me.”
20 After turning, Peter saw the disciple whom Jesus {Iesous, Faithful Lover} loved, who was following—the one who had also reclined at the supper upon His chest and had said, “Lord {Kyrios, Knowing Master}, who is the one betraying You?”
21 Then Peter, seeing him, says to Jesus {Iesous, Risen Master}, “Lord {Kyrios, Sovereign Guide}, and what of this man?”
22 Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} says to him, “If I desire that he remain until I come, what concern is that of yours? You, follow {akolouthei: devoted obedience} Me.”
23 Therefore this saying went out among the brothers that the disciple, that one, would not die; yet Jesus {Iesous, Risen Lord} did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I want him to remain {meno: continue here} until I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple {mathetes: faithful follower} who is bearing witness about these things and who wrote these things, and we know that his testimony {martyria: verified witness} is true.
25 There are also many other things that Jesus {Iesous, Inexhaustible Worker} did; if they were written one by one, I suppose that not even the world itself would have room for the books {biblia: Written Volumes} that would be written.
