Philippians 1TAB

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Anointed Savior}, to all the saints {hagiois: consecrated believers} in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father {Theos, Source of Grace} and the Lord Jesus Christ {Kyrios Iesous Christos, Giver of Peace}.

I give thanks to my God {Theos, Thanked For You} upon every remembrance {mneia: mindful recalling} of you.

Always in every prayer {deesis: specific intercession} of mine for all of you, making the request with joy {charas: deep inner gladness}.

On account of your fellowship {koinonia: active sharing} in the gospel {euangelion: good news message} from the first day until now.

Having been persuaded of this very thing, that the One who began a good work {ergon: transforming activity} in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Faithful Finisher}.

Just as it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart—both in my chains {desmoi: imprisonment bonds} and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all fellow sharers with me of the grace {charis: undeserved favor}.

For God {Theos, Supreme Witness} is my witness that I long for all of you with the affections {splanchnois: deep inner compassion} of Christ Jesus.

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge {epignosis: deep understanding} and all discernment {aisthesis: perceptive insight}.

So that you may test and approve {dokimazein: carefully evaluate} the things that are excellent, in order that you may be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ {Christos, Returning Judge}.

Having been filled with the fruit of righteousness{dikaiosyne: God-approved rightness} that comes through Jesus Christ{Iesous Christos, Righteousness Mediator}, to the glory and praise of God{Theos, Worthy Of Glory}.

But I want you to know, brothers {adelphoi: covenant family}, that the things concerning me have, instead, happened for the advancement of the gospel {euangelion: Christ-centered message}.

So that my chains in Christ {Christos, Honored Through Chains} became well known in the whole praetorium {praitorion: Roman imperial guard} and to all the rest.

And the majority of the brothers in the Lord {Kyrios, Faith Confidence Source}, having become confident by my chains, are much more daring to speak the word without fear {aphobos: with boldness}.

Some indeed are proclaiming Christ {Christos, Proclaimed Messiah} out of envy {phthonos: resentful rivalry} and strife, but others out of good will.

These, on the one hand, act out of love {agape: self-giving devotion}, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel {euangelion: saving good news}.

But the ones who are motivated by selfish ambition proclaim Christ {Christos, Proclaimed Messiah} not sincerely {hagnos: pure intent}, thinking to cause trouble for me in my chains.

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ {Christos, Anointed Redeemer} is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice {khairo: express gladness}. Yes, I will also rejoice.

For I know that this will turn out for my salvation {soteria: final deliverance} through your prayer and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ {pneuma Iesou Christou, Empowering Deliverer}.

According to my eager expectation and hope that in nothing I will be put to shame, but with all boldness as always, so now also Christ {Christos, Exalted Lord} will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death {thanatos: death itself}.

As for me, living is Christ {Christos, Life’s Meaning}, and dying is gain {kerdos: ultimate benefit}.

But if living in the flesh {sarx: mortal existence} means fruitful work for me, then I do not know {gnorizo: clearly know} what I will choose.

But I am hard-pressed between the two, having the desire {epithymia: deep longing} to depart and to be with Christ {Christos, Life’s Goal}, for it is very much better.

Yet to remain in the flesh {sarx: bodily existence} is more necessary for you {hymas: for your sake}.

And having this confidence {pepoithos: settled assurance}, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith {pistis: faithful trust}.

So that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus {Christo Iesou, Exalted Savior} in me by means of my coming {parousia: personal presence} again to you.

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ {Christos, Saving Messiah}, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit {pneuma: God-given unity}, with one soul striving together for the faith of the gospel.

And in no way being terrified by those who oppose you, which is to them a sign of destruction {apoleia: final ruin}, but of your salvation, and this from God {Theos, Saving Judge}.

For it has been graciously granted {echaristhe: freely given as a favor} to you, for the sake of Christ {Christos, Honored Messiah}, not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for Him {paschein: endure physical and emotional hardship}.

Having the same conflict {agona: intense contest} that you saw {eidete: firsthand witnessed} in me, and now hear that I still have.
