1 But Peter {Petros: early church leader} and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour {enaten: about 3 p.m.}.
2 And a certain man, lame from his mother’s womb {ek koilias metros: congenital incapacity}, was being carried, whom they would lay each day at the gate of the temple called Beautiful {Horaia: splendid entrance}, so that he might ask for alms from those entering the temple.
3 Who, having seen Peter and John about to enter into the temple {hieron: sacred place}, was asking to receive alms {eleemosyne: charitable gift}.
4 But Peter, having fixed his gaze {atenisas: intense focus} on him together with John, said, “Look at us {hemas: Peter and John}.”
5 But he directed his attention {epeichen: intent focus} to them, expecting {prosdokon: eager anticipation} to receive something from them.
6 But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have, this I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ {Iesous Christos, Risen Healer} the Nazarene, walk {peripatei: begin walking}.”
7 And having taken him by the right hand, he raised him up, and immediately his feet {baseis: supporting base} and ankles {sphydra: ankle bones} were made strong.
8 And leaping {exallomenos: sudden springing} up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God {Theos, Celebrated Restorer}.
9 And all the people {laos: assembled witnesses} saw him walking and praising God {Theos, Publicly Glorified One}.
10 And they recognized him as the one who used to sit for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder {thambos: overwhelming awe} and amazement {ekstasis: astonishment beyond reason} at what had happened to him.
11 While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people, utterly amazed {ekthamboi: overwhelmed with astonishment}, ran together toward them in the portico {stoa: covered colonnade} called Solomon’s.
12 But when Peter {Petros: Authoritative Witness} saw this, he answered and said to the people, “Men of Israel {Israelitai: Covenant Nation}, why do you marvel at this, or why do you look intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk?”
13 The God {Theos, Ancestral Covenant God} of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus {Iesous, Exalted Servant Messiah}, whom you indeed handed over and denied before Pilate when that one had decided to release Him.
14 But you denied the Holy {hagion: divinely set apart} and Righteous One {dikaion: completely just}, and you asked for a man, a murderer, to be granted to you.
15 But you killed the Author of life, whom God {Theos, Righteous Vindicator} raised from the dead; to this we are witnesses {martyres: formal legal witnesses}.
16 And on the basis of faith in His {Iesous, Exalted Healer} name, this man whom you see and know has been made strong, and the faith that is through Him has given him this complete soundness {holokleria: total restoration} in the presence of you all.
17 And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance {agnoian: limited understanding}, just as also your rulers {archontes: civil authorities} did.
18 But God {Theos, Faithful Fulfiller} has thus fulfilled what He foretold through the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ {Christos, Suffering Messiah} would suffer.
19 So repent {metanoeo: inner change} and turn back, so that your sins {hamartia: moral failures} may be blotted out.
20 Then times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord {Kyrios, Present Restorer}, and He may send to you Jesus {Iesous, Personal Savior}, the Christ {Christos, Appointed Messiah} appointed for you.
21 Whom heaven must receive until the times of the restoration of all things, which God {Theos, Faithful Promise Giver} spoke about through the mouth of His holy prophets {prophetes: inspired spokesmen} from ancient times.
22 Moses said, “The Lord God {Kyrios ho Theos, Promise Fulfiller} will raise up for you a prophet {prophetes: divine spokesman} like me from among your brothers; you will listen to him in everything whatever he might speak to you.”
23 And it will be that every soul {psuche: whole person}, whoever does not listen to that prophet, will be utterly destroyed {exolethreuthesetai: judged decisively} from among the people.
24 And all the prophets {prophetai: inspired spokesmen}, from Samuel and those who came after him, as many as have spoken, have also foretold {katenggeilan: proclaimed by divine commission} these days.
25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God {Theos, Faithful Covenant Maker} made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, “And in your seed {sperma: offspring descendant} all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
26 To you first, God {Theos, Saving Initiator}, having raised up His servant {paida: Honored Representative}, sent Him to bless you by turning each of you away from your evil deeds {ponerion: Wicked Actions}.
