1 Six days later, Jesus {Iesous, Revealing Son} took Peter and James, along with John his brother, and led them up onto a high mountain apart {idian: private setting}.
2 There, before their eyes, He {Iesous, Radiant Son} was transformed, and His face blazed like the sun, and His garments became white like light {phos: pure radiance}.
3 And behold {idou: sudden revelation}, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, speaking with Him {Iesous, Transfigured Son}.
4 Peter answered and said to Jesus {Iesous, Glorious Son}, “Lord {Kyrios, Radiant King}, it is a good thing for us to be here; if You wish, I will put up three tents here—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 While He was still speaking, behold, a radiant cloud {nephele: radiant presence} overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son {huios: Beloved Messiah}, in whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”
6 When the disciples {mathetai: learners under instruction} heard this, they fell face-down and were greatly afraid {ephobethesan: seized by terror}.
7 Jesus {Iesous, Divine Comforter} came up to them and touched them, and said, “Arise and do not be afraid {phobeisthe: harbor fear}.”
8 When they raised their eyes, they saw no one—except Jesus {Iesous, Glorious Son} alone {monon: completely by Himself}.
9 On their way down the mountain, Jesus {Iesous, Glorious Son} commanded them, “Tell the vision {horama: revealed sight} to no one until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
10 The disciples asked Him {Iesous, Questioned Teacher}, “Why, then, do the scribes {grammateis: recognized interpreters} say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus {Iesous, Restoration Proclaimer} answered, “Elijah {Elias: prophetic forerunner} is indeed coming, and he will restore all things.”
12 But I say to you: Elijah {Elias: prophetic forerunner} has already come, and they did not recognize him; rather, they treated him as they chose. Likewise, the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou: Suffering Messiah} will also suffer at their hands.
13 Then the disciples {mathetai: dedicated followers} understood that He {Iesous, Revealing Messiah} had been speaking to them about John the Baptist.
14 When they came to the crowd {ochlos: gathered multitude}, a man came up to Him {Iesous, Sought-After Healer} and knelt before Him.
15 He said, “Lord {Kyrios, Merciful Master}, have mercy on my son, because he suffers from seizures {seleniazetai: moonstruck} and is badly afflicted; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.”
16 I brought him to Your {Iesous, Trusted Teacher} disciples, but they were not able to heal {therapeuo: restore to wholeness} him.
17 Jesus {Iesous, Divine Teacher} answered and said, “O faithless {apistos: lacking trust} and perverse generation, how long shall I remain with you? How long must I endure you? Bring him here to me.”
18 Jesus {Iesous, Authoritative Healer} rebuked the demon {daimonion: hostile spirit power}, and it came out of him, and the child was healed from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus {Iesous, Patient Teacher} privately and said, "Why were we not able {edynethemen: spiritually enabled} to cast it out?"
20 But He {Iesous, Faith Strengthener} says to them, “Because of your little faith {oligopistia: deficient trust}, for truly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
21 But this kind {genos: spiritual category} does not go out except by prayer {proseuche: focused communion} and fasting.
22 As they gathered in Galilee, Jesus {Iesous, Suffering Messiah} said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered {paradidosthai: handed over unjustly} into the hands of men."
23 They will kill Him {Iesous, Foretold Sufferer}, and on the third day He will be raised; and they were exceedingly grieved {elupethesan: deeply distressed}.
24 When they entered Capernaum {Kapharnaoum: Lakeside Town}, the men who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, “Your teacher {Iesous, Questioned Rabbi} pays the two-drachma tax, does He not?”
25 He said, “Yes.” When he entered the house, Jesus {Iesous: Divine Teacher} spoke to him first and said, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth {basileis tes ges: earthly rulers} collect custom or tribute—from their own sons, or from others?”
26 When he said, “From strangers,” Jesus {Iesous, Revealer of Sonship} said to him, “Therefore, the sons are free {eleutheroi: not obliged}.”
27 But so that we do not cause them to stumble {skandalisomen: spiritual misstep}, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up. When you open its mouth, you will find a stater. Take it and give it to them for Me {Iesous, Humble Son} and you.
