So then, there is no condemnation {katakrima: guilty verdict removed} remaining for those who are in Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Righteous Redeemer}.
Because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus {Christos Iesous, Liberating Lord} has liberated you from the law {nomos: ruling principle} of sin and of death.
For the law could not accomplish its purpose, because it was weakened through the flesh; but God {theos, Righteous Judge}, by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh {sarx: frail humanity}.
This has happened so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, those who do not walk according to the flesh {sarx: lower human nature} but according to the Spirit {pneuma, Divine Empowering Presence}.
For people who are according to the flesh {sarx: self-directed nature} direct their minds toward the things of the flesh, but people who are according to the Spirit {pneuma, Sanctifying Guide} direct their minds toward the things of the Spirit.
For the mindset of the flesh leads to death, but the mindset of the Spirit {pneuma, Holy Life Giver} results in life and peace {eirene: complete well-being}.
Because the mindset of the flesh is hostility toward God {Theos, Righteous Standard}; it does not submit to the law {nomos: divine instruction} of God, and in fact it is not able to do so.
But those dwelling in the flesh are not able to please {aresai: gain approving favor} God {Theos, Holy One Not Pleased}.
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God {pneuma theou: Indwelling Lordship} dwells in you; and if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ {pneuma Christou: Risen Messiah’s Life}, that one does not belong to Him.
But if Christ {Christos, Indwelling Redeemer} is in you, the body is indeed dead because of sin, yet the Spirit is life because of righteousness {dikaiosyne: justified status}.
And if the Spirit {Pneuma: Resurrection Life Giver} of Him {Theos: Resurrection Father} who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit dwelling in you.
So then, brothers, we are debtors {opheiletai: under moral duty}—but not to the flesh {sarx: self-centered impulses}, as though we must live according to the flesh.
For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit {Pneuma, Life-Giving Sanctifier} you put to death the deeds {praxis: entrenched practices} of the body, you will live.
For all who are guided by the Spirit of God {Pneuma Theou: Divine Guide}, these are sons {huioi: direct heirs} of God.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that plunges you back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption {huiothesia: full filial status}, in which we cry out, “Abba, Father {pater: Intimate Covenant Father}.”
The Spirit Himself {pneuma: Inner Witness} testifies together with our spirit that we are children of God {Theos: Adopting Father}.
And if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs indeed of God {Theos, Source of Inheritance}, and joint heirs with Christ {Christos, Suffering Messiah}—provided that we suffer alongside Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
For I consider that the sufferings {pathemata: painful experiences} of this present time are not worth weighing against the glory {doxa: radiant honor} that is about to be revealed to us.
For the eager expectation {apokaradokia: intense anticipation} of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God {Theos, Revealing Father}.
For the creation was subjected to futility {mataiotes: inner emptiness}, not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it, in hope {elpidi: confident expectation}.
That even the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay {phthora: decaying ruin} into the liberty of the glory of the children of God {Theos, Gracious Liberator}.
For we know that the whole creation {ktisis: created order} groans together {sustenazei: shared anguish} and suffers birth pangs together until now.
And not only creation groans, but we ourselves also—who possess the firstfruits of the Spirit {pneuma: sanctifying downpayment}—groan within ourselves, eagerly awaiting adoption {huiothesia: legal sonship}, the redemption of our body.
For in hope {elpis: confident expectation} we were saved {esothemen: decisive deliverance}; but hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he sees?
But if we hope {elpizo: confident expectation} for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it through patience {hypomone: steadfast endurance}.
In the same way, the Spirit {pneuma, Divine Interceding Helper} also helps in our weakness {astheneia: inner frailty}; for we do not know what we should pray for as is necessary, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed.
But He who searches the hearts discerns the mind {phronema: inner intention} of the Spirit, for He intercedes on behalf of the saints in accordance with the will of God {Theos, All-Knowing Judge}.
And we know that for those who love God {Theos, Wise Orchestrator}, He works all things together toward good for those called {kletos: divinely summoned} according to His purpose.
For those whom He {Theos, Sovereign Foreknower} foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son {huios, Exalted Firstborn}, so that He might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And those whom He {Theos, Saving Initiator} predestined {proorisen: marked out beforehand}, these He also called; and those whom He called, these He also justified; and those whom He justified, these He also glorified.
What, then, are we to say in response to these things? If God {Theos, Faithful Defender} is for us, who is able to stand against us {kath hemon: hostile opposition}?
He {Theos, Self-Giving Father} who did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for all of us; how will He not also, together with Him, graciously give us all things {panta: every good provision}?
Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God {Theos, Righteous Justifier} is the One who justifies {dikaion: declares righteous}.
Who is the one who condemns? Christ {Christos, Crucified Advocate} is the One who died—more than that, who was raised—who also is at the right hand of God {Theos, Exalted Judge}, who indeed intercedes for us.
Who will separate us from the love of Christ {Christos, Redeeming Messiah}? Will tribulation {thlipsis: crushing affliction}, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Just as it has been written: “For Your {Theos, Worthy of Devotion} sake we are being put to death all day long; we were regarded as sheep {probata: sacrificial victims} for slaughter.”
Yet in all these circumstances we are more than conquerors {hypernikomen: overwhelmingly victorious} through Him {Christos, Giving Us Triumph} who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor rulers {archai: governing powers}, neither present matters nor future matters, nor powers {dynameis: supernatural forces},
Neither height nor depth nor any other created thing {ktisis: anything made} will be able to separate us from the love {agape: self-giving devotion} of God {Theos, Steadfast Lover} that is in Christ Jesus our Lord {Kyrios, Redeeming Master}.
