1 After He {Iesous, Sermon Teacher} came down from the mountain {oros: Teaching Height}, large crowds went along behind Him.
2 And look, a leper {lepros: excluded sufferer} stepped forward and did homage to Him, saying, “Lord {Kyrie, Sovereign Healer}, if You are willing, You are able to make me clean.”
3 Then He {Iesous, Merciful Healer} extended His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be purified.” At once he was purified of his leprosy {lepra: serious skin disease}.
4 And Jesus {Iesous, Law-Honoring Lord} said to him, “Be sure not to say anything to anyone; instead, go, make yourself known to the priest {hiereus: authorized examiner} and present the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
5 After He {Iesous, Compassionate Lord} had entered Capernaum, a centurion {hekatontarchos: hundred-soldier commander} approached Him, imploring Him.
6 And he was saying, “Lord {Kyrios, Compassionate Healer}, my servant lies in the house, paralyzed {paralytikos: unable to move}, and is being tormented severely.”
7 And He {Iesous, Compassionate Healer} says to him, “I will come and heal {therapeuso: restore to health} him.”
8 And, in reply, the centurion said, “Lord {Kyrie, Recognized Authority}, I am not adequate {hikanos: sufficient} for You to come into my dwelling, but only utter a word, and my servant will be restored to health.”
9 For even I am a man under authority {exousia: delegated command}, with soldiers {stratiotas: disciplined troops} under me. I say to this one, “Go,” and he goes; to another, “Come,” and he comes; and to my servant, “Do this,” and he does it.
10 When Jesus {Iesous, Astonished Assessor} heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following Him, “Truly I say to you, I have not come across such faith {pistis: exceptional trust} in Israel.”
11 But I {Iesous, Prophetic Announcer} say to you that many will arrive from east and west and will be seated together with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven {ouranon: Heavenly Realm}.
12 But the sons {huioi: kingdom heirs} of the kingdom will be expelled into the darkness {skotos: utter gloom} outside; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus {Iesous, Faith-Honoring Healer} said to the centurion, “Go; may it be done for you as you believed {episteusas: personal trust}.” And the servant was healed in that very hour.
14 And after entering Peter’s house, Jesus {Iesous, Compassionate Visitor} saw his mother-in-law laid low {beblemenen: prostrated} and burning with fever.
15 And He touched {haptomai: direct contact} her hand, and the fever {pyretos: burning sickness} left her, and she rose and served Him.
16 As evening drew on, many demon-possessed people were brought to Him {Iesous, Compassionate Healer}, and He expelled the spirits by a word, and He healed all who were badly afflicted {kakos echontas: in poor condition}.
17 So that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be brought to completion: “He {Iesous, Promise-Fulfilling Messiah} Himself took our infirmities {astheneias: weakening illnesses} and carried our diseases.”
18 And when Jesus {Iesous, Discerning Leader} saw the crowds around Him, He issued orders to set off for the farther shore {peran: opposite shore}.
19 And one scribe {grammateus: trained legal scholar} came forward and said to Him {autō: the one addressed}, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You may go.”
20 And Jesus {Iesous, Self-Giving Teacher} said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the sky have nesting places; but the Son of Man has nowhere to set His head {kephale: resting point} down.”
21 But a different disciple from among them said to Him, “Lord {Kyrios, Honored Master}, permit me first {proton: before all else} to go and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus {Iesous, Discipleship Lord} says to him, “Follow Me, and allow the dead {nekros: spiritually unresponsive people} to perform the burial of their own dead.”
23 And when He {Iesous, Guiding Teacher} had entered the boat, His disciples {mathetai: devoted learners} followed Him.
24 And behold, a great storm {seismos: Violent Upheaval} came about on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but He Himself {Iesous, Calm In Danger} was asleep.
25 And having come to Him {proselthontes: urgent approach}, they woke Him, saying, “Lord {Kyrios, Storm-Commanding Sovereign}, save us; we are perishing.”
26 And He says to them, “Why are you cowardly {deiloi: fear-struck}, you of little faith?” Then, after rising, He rebuked {epetimēsen: spoke with authority} the winds and the sea, and a great calm came.
27 But the men marveled {ethaumasan: deeply astonished}, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him {Iesous, Sovereign Over Creation}?”
28 When He reached the far shore and entered the district of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met Him, coming out from the tombs, extremely fierce {khalepoi: dangerously hostile}, so that no one could pass along that road {hodos: travel route}.
29 And behold, they cried out, saying, “What is there between us and You, Son of God {huios tou theou, Sovereign Judge}? Have You come here before the appointed time {kairos: Fixed Season} to torment us?”
30 Now there was a herd of many pigs {khoiron: ritually unclean animals} feeding some distance {makran: considerable separation} from them.
31 But the demons kept begging Him {Iesous, Exercising Authority}, saying, “If You cast us out, send us into the herd {agelen: gathered livestock} of pigs.”
32 Then He {Iesous, Commanding Authority} said to them, “Go.” After they had come out, they went into the pigs, and look, the whole herd plunged down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters {hydasin: Deadly Depths}.
33 But the herders {boskontes: livestock keepers} fled, and after going into the city, they announced everything, including the matters concerning those who were demon-possessed {daimonizomenon: under demonic power}.
34 And look, the entire city came out to meet Jesus {Iesous, Awe-Inspiring Presence}, and when they saw Him, they implored Him to depart from their territory {horion: borderlands}.
