Mark 9TAB

And He {Iesous, Prophetic Messiah} said to them, “Truly I say to you that there are some of those standing here who will certainly not taste death until they see the kingdom of God {basileia tou theou, Majestic Reign} having come in power.”

And after six days Jesus{Iesous, Radiant Son} took Peter, James, and John with Him and brought them up onto a high mountain where they were alone; and He was transfigured{metemorphothe: changed in appearance} before them.

And His {Iesous, Radiant Son} garments {himatia: outer clothing} began to gleam, becoming extremely white—whiter than any launderer on earth is able to make them.

And Elijah {Elias: Prophetic Forerunner} appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus {Iesous, Promised Messiah}.

Peter replied to Jesus {Iesous, Transfigured Messiah}, “Rabbi, it is truly good for us to stay here {hode: this place}; therefore, let us erect three tents—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

For he did not know {eidei: lacked understanding} what he should answer, for they became terrified {ekphoboi: seized by fear}.

And a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice spoke: “This is My Son {huios, Revealed Messiah}, the Beloved {agapetos, specially favored}; listen to Him.”

And at once, after scanning their surroundings {periblepsamenoi: scanned their surroundings}, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus {Iesous, Sole Revealed Glory}.

And as they descended the mountain, Jesus {Iesous, Transfigured Lord} commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou, Exalted Judge} should rise from the dead.

And they kept the word {logon: remembered saying} to themselves, debating with one another what it means to rise {anastenai: be raised again} from the dead.

And they were asking Him {Iesous, Authoritative Teacher}, saying, “Why do the scribes {grammateis: expert interpreters} say that Elijah {Elias: expected herald} must come first?”

And He said to them, “Elijah {Elias: prophetic forerunner} does come first and restores all things; then why is it written concerning the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou: Suffering Messiah} that He must suffer many things and be despised?”

But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they performed {epoiēsan: carried out} to him whatever they desired, just as it is written {gegraptai: formally recorded} about him.

And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd {ochlos: gathered people} surrounding them, and scribes {grammateis: Law experts} arguing with them.

And at once the whole crowd, when they saw Him {Iesous, Revealed Lord}, were struck with great amazement {exethambethesan: intensely astonished}; and they ran up and greeted Him.

And He {Iesous, Probing Teacher} asked them, “What are you discussing {syzeteite: debating matters} with them?”

And one from the crowd answered Him {Iesous, Approached Teacher}, “Teacher {Didaskalos: authoritative instructor}, I have brought my son to You, having a mute spirit {pneuma alalon: speech-stopping power}.”

Whenever it seizes him, it hurls {rhēsei: throws forcefully} him to the ground; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and stiffens. And I instructed your disciples {mathetes: trained learners} to cast it out, but they were not able.

And He {Iesous, Patient Rebuker} answered them, saying, “O unbelieving generation {genea: age group sharing outlook}, how long must I remain with you? How long must I endure you? Bring him to Me.”

And they brought him to Him {Iesous, Authority Over Spirits}. And when the spirit saw Him, it immediately convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and rolled about {ekulieto: tossed and turned}.

And He {Iesous, Compassionate Questioner} asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood {paidiotetos: early years}.”

And often it has thrown him into fire and water to destroy him; but if You {Iesous, Merciful Healer} are able to do anything, help us, having compassion {splagchnistheis: deep inner mercy} on us.

And Jesus {Iesous, Challenger of Unbelief} said to him, “‘If {ei: hesitant condition} You can’—all things are possible for the one who believes.”

Immediately {euthys: without delay} the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief {apistia: inner wavering}.”

But when Jesus {Iesous, Authoritative Deliverer} saw that a crowd was running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit {pneuma akatharto: defiling presence}, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.”

And after crying out and violently convulsing him {sparaxas: severe convulsions}, it came out; and he was as if dead {nekros: utterly powerless}, so that many said, “He has died.”

But Jesus {Iesous, Divine Restorer} took hold of his hand {cheir: firm touch}, set him on his feet, and he stood.

And when He {Iesous, Source Of Authority} entered the house, His disciples asked Him in private, “For what reason were we not able to cast it out {ekbalein: forcefully remove}?”

And He {Iesous, Lord of Deliverance} said to them, “This kind {genos: spiritual class} cannot come out by anything except by prayer.”

And from there, having departed, they were passing through Galilee, and He {Iesous, Intentional Teacher} was not willing that anyone should know {gnoi: come to know}.

While teaching His disciples {mathetas: Dedicated Learners}, He declared to them, “The Son of Man {huios tou anthropou, Messianic Title} is being handed over into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; but having been killed, He will rise in three days.”

But they did not understand the statement {rhema: spoken message}, and they were afraid to ask Him {Iesous, Messiah Teacher}.

When they reached Capernaum, He {Iesous, Teacher of the Way} entered the house and asked them, “What were you debating on the way {hodo: travel route}?”

But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed {dielechthesan: engaged in debate} with one another who was greater {meizon: higher in rank}.

And after He {Iesous, Servant Teacher} sat down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he will be last of all and servant {diakonos: one who ministers} of all.”

Taking a child {paidion: small youngster}, He {Iesous, Compassionate Teacher} placed it in their midst; then, embracing it, He said to them,

Whoever receives one of such children{paidion: vulnerable little ones} in My name receives Me{Iesous, Welcomed Lord}; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me but rather receives the One who sent Me.

John said to Him {Iesous, Revered Master}, “Teacher, we observed someone expelling {ekballo: forceful expulsion} demons in Your name, and we were preventing him because he was not following us.”

But Jesus {Iesous, Wise Instructor} said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who performs a mighty work {dynamin: miracle} in My name will quickly be able to speak evil of Me.”

For whoever {hos: inclusive reference} is not against us is for {huper: active support} us.

For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in the Name, because you are Christ’s {Christos, Covenant Lord}, truly I say to you, he will never lose his reward {misthos: due recompense}.

And whoever causes one of these little ones {mikron: humble disciples} who believe in Me {Iesous, Righteous Judge} to stumble, it would be better for him if a donkey’s millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than, having two hands, to go into Gehenna {geennan: place of final judgment}, into the unquenchable fire {pyr: consuming flame}.

Where their worm {skolex: destructive worm} does not die, and the fire {pyr: consuming flame} is not quenched.

And if your foot becomes an occasion for sin {skandalizo: lead into sin}, sever it; it is more beneficial to enter life limping than to be cast with both feet into Gehenna {geenna: Final Judgment}.

Where their worm {skolex: agent of decay} does not die and the fire {pyr: relentless torment} is not quenched.

And if your eye causes you to stumble, cast it out; it is good for you to enter the kingdom of God {Theos, Righteous Judge} with one eye rather than, having two eyes, to be thrown into Gehenna {geenna: place of final punishment} of fire.

Where their worm {skolex: decaying parasite} does not die, and the fire {pyr: consuming blaze} is not quenched.

For everyone {pas: each person} will be salted with fire {pyri: purifying trial}.

Salt {halas: preserving quality} is good. But if the salt becomes unsalty, by what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace {eirēneuete: maintain harmony} with one another.
