Matthew 14 — Greek Interlinear

Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἤκουσεν Ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὴν ἀκοὴν Ἰησοῦ,

in that the time {He} heard Herod the tetrarch the fame of Jesus

καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστής· αὐτὸς ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν νεκρῶν, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο αἱ δυνάμεις ἐνεργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτῷ.

and he said to the servants his this is John the Baptist he was raised from the dead and because of this the powers are at work in him

Ὁ γὰρ Ἡρῴδης κρατήσας τὸν Ἰωάννην ἔδησεν ⸀αὐτὸν καὶ ⸂ἐν φυλακῇ ἀπέθετο⸃ διὰ Ἡρῳδιάδα τὴν γυναῖκα Φιλίππου τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ,

{the} for Herod having seized {the} John bound him and in prison put because of Herodias the wife of Philip the brother of him

ἔλεγεν γὰρ ⸂αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης⸃· Οὐκ ἔξεστίν σοι ἔχειν αὐτήν·

{He} was saying for to him {the} John not it is lawful for you to have her

καὶ θέλων αὐτὸν ἀποκτεῖναι ἐφοβήθη τὸν ὄχλον, ὅτι ὡς προφήτην αὐτὸν εἶχον.

and wanting him to kill feared the crowd because as a prophet him considered

⸂γενεσίοις δὲ γενομένοις⸃ τοῦ Ἡρῴδου ὠρχήσατο ἡ θυγάτηρ τῆς Ἡρῳδιάδος ἐν τῷ μέσῳ καὶ ἤρεσεν τῷ Ἡρῴδῃ,

birthday celebrations and having occurred of Herod {She} danced the daughter of Herodias in the midst and she pleased to Herod

ὅθεν μετὰ ὅρκου ὡμολόγησεν αὐτῇ δοῦναι ὃ ⸀ἐὰν αἰτήσηται.

therefore with an oath he promised to her to give what if she may ask

ἡ δὲ προβιβασθεῖσα ὑπὸ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτῆς· Δός μοι, φησίν, ὧδε ἐπὶ πίνακι τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτιστοῦ.

the and having been prompted by the mother of her give me she says here on a platter the head of John {the} Baptist

καὶ ⸂λυπηθεὶς ὁ βασιλεὺς διὰ⸃ τοὺς ὅρκους καὶ τοὺς συνανακειμένους ἐκέλευσεν δοθῆναι,

and having been grieved the king because of the oaths and the those reclining together at table {He} commanded to be given

καὶ πέμψας ἀπεκεφάλισεν ⸀τὸν Ἰωάννην ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ·

and after sending he beheaded {the} John in the prison

καὶ ἠνέχθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πίνακι καὶ ἐδόθη τῷ κορασίῳ, καὶ ἤνεγκεν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς.

and was brought the head his on platter and was given to the girl and she brought to the mother her

καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἦραν τὸ ⸀πτῶμα καὶ ἔθαψαν ⸀αὐτόν, καὶ ἐλθόντες ἀπήγγειλαν τῷ Ἰησοῦ.

and approached the disciples his {They} took the body and buried him and came reported to {the} Jesus
